“Portraits & Persistence: Stories of Cultural Entrepreneurship” will be launched on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at Pizza Baron with Bill and Jeff Dayton, owners of Pizza Baron!

🍕Pizza Baron has been owned by this father and son duo since 1983! Come listen to their story, view their illustration and ask them about their Back To School Special in addition to that how they continue to support the community! 🍕

🎨We were inspired for this Midway Monthly Mix by our former MBA Treasurer, Artist and Entrepreneur, Hampton Rodriguez‘ “Here We Are” series. We asked him to illustrate portraits of some of our business community members, encourage them to tell their stories, and share their portraits on their social media platforms for business exposure.

🏆Thank you to Councilor Candace Avalos
for presenting the 2026 D1 People’s Choice Award Winners! At the D1 Picnic she asked, the community answered! Our mural on the corner of SE 122nd and Powell was voted one of the areas favorite murals! 💖We are out here building community! Thank you for voting for us!

🎨The mural, titled “Leaders of East Portland,” was painted by local muralist and Midway resident, Alex Chiu. It features four prominent leaders of the Midway community and was commissioned by the Midway Business Association, with grant assistance from Venture Portland. The mural is located at SE 122nd and Powell in the Midway Neighborhood on the Octapharma Plasma building.

🎉❤️Midway Business Association joined our community over the past few days to say goodbye and to support the resilient small businesses Lloyd Community Association Lloyd Center Ice Rink lloyd.center.mall that stayed until the end.

💥The traditional complex evolved into an eclectic, counterculture “punk-rock mall” driven by local indie shops, art galleries, local food vendors and community groups rather than big-box anchors. We can’t wait to see you all in other locations, thriving!

🙏🏻Thank you lloyd.center.mall for being a part of our landscape, we will miss you!
