You are welcome to mail a check made out to the Friends of the Portales Public Library in care of Portales Public Library, 218 S. Ave. B, Portales, and we will get your chances into the hopper. Sales continue through late July.

The 2026 Summer Reading Program at the Portales Public Library kicks off Monday with registration from 10 a.m.-noon at the library, 218 S. Ave. B, Portales. Can't make it then, don't worry: registration is ongoing all summer long.

And if you think Summer Reading is just for kids, well, think AGAIN. Here's what is on tap in June for the 18 and older crowd.

Hey, lovers of books and libraries! Take a look at this beautiful quilt made from Portales Public Library t-shirts. It's going to be raffled off this summer by the Friends of the Portales Public Library as part of the 2026 Summer Reading Program. Chances are $1 apiece, or six for $5. They'll be available for purchase at the library starting at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1. Sales end at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 24, and we will draw for a winner at noon on Friday, July 24. Every penny stays in the library and one lucky winner will have an AMAZING keepsake. The quilt was pieced and embroidered by Louise Shoemaker and Corrie Freed, and quilted by Marietta Perkins. Feel free to share with any book lovers you know. It's your chance to own a treasure.

Portales Mayor Mike Davidson will present our program at the next meeting of the Friends of the Portales Public Library scheduled for noon on Tuesday, May 5, in the library meeting room, 218 S. Ave. B, Portales. We will also have a short business meeting, hear about our spring fundraisers, and have a preview of the upcoming summer reading program. Sack lunches are welcome, and the public is warmly invited to join us.

A huge THANK YOU to all who supported our annual used book sale. Your donations added up to $3,310.07--the best sale any of us can remember. Every single penny will be used in the library to support great programming. Our friends are the BEST. (But then so is our library.)

The day you've been waiting for. FREE BOOKS (and other stuff). Today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Portales Public Library, ALL remaining stock from our annual used book sale is FREE. Books, CDs, DVDs. If it is there, it is free. No limits. No questions asked. We have lots of boxes, but you are also to bring your own boxes, wheelbarrows, trucks, trailers. Seriously. We don't care. Just come and get 'em.

Great news: We still have an excellent selection of books available as we wind down our Pay What You Can book sale at the Portales Public Library. Open today (Wednesday) from 10 am-6 pm. Tomorrow all remaining stock is FREE from 10 am-6 pm. Do yourself (and us!) a favor and check it out. Big thanks to all who have already shopped and been so generous with donations. Every penny stays in the building supporting library programming. We could not be more grateful.

Good news, book shoppers! Eleven MORE boxes of top quality material came in to our Friends of the Portales Public Library used book sale right at closing time on Saturday. Many good reasons to come back this week. Our "pay what you can" sale continues from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily through Thursday (except on Thursday, everything that is left is FREE). What are you waiting for?
