The Living Room Discipleship A place for young adults to share a meal, share the Word of God, and share in friendship

Originally called a "parlor," a home's living room served as a gathering room but also as a grieving room when a family member died. The body was often displayed in the parlor so that family and friends could view the body and grieve the loss. When funeral parlors began to be widespread, the home parlor was no longer associated with death but with life! Parlors began to be called living rooms and

became the primary gathering place in the home. Welcome to The Living Room, a place for young adults to enjoy discipleship, hospitality, and service.

From last week—-

Think of the price (not a payment amount, but the price!) of a purchase you are considering. It might be a pair of Air Jordans, a weekend getaway with the
girls, or a daily coffee shop purchase.

Now figure out how many hours, days, weeks, months, or years you would have to work to buy it. Use your current pay rate, and pretend all of your pay can be used for this purchase. Are you still down with it?

Now ask yourself two questions:

1. How will this purchase affect me and my family or future family down the road?

2. Is this purchase glorifying to God and is it the way God wants me to steward His provisions?

Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (NKJV)

(Psalm 90 was penned by Moses, and is most likely the oldest Psalm)

Question:: Can you imagine God wasting time? (Answer is shown below)

Teach us number our days. To make the most of every year, every month, every week, every day, every hour, every minute and second. Let us invest the time into the glorification of God, into our spouse, kids, parents, grandkids and all our family; making disciples and advancing His kingdom. May we make the most of every opportunity and may God make our efforts successful! Psalm 90

Answer: Not in a million years 😂🤣

It is essential that we have a healthy, reverential fear of God. And we don’t have to get all hung up on that word fear. When that word is used on the context of Scripture, it really means that we know God is God and He is awesome. He is unlike us. When we fail to fear God, we empty Him of His power and His sovereignty and His glory. We have to remember, we are made in His image, we are not to try to make Him into ours.
Did you know it’s actually possible to fall in the love with the image of something or someone without actually loving the thing or the person? Let me show you what I mean.
It’s very easy to form an image of the kind of person we might want to marry or the kind of life we want to live. Girls might decide they love cowboys or athletes or guys with beards. Guys might decide they love cowgirls or athletes or girls with blonde hair.
A recent grad might decide he loves chasing a fantasy rather than working his land (Proverbs 12:11).

When sin drops down dead and gets buried, believing happens. Healings happen. Purity happens. The awe and healthy fear of the Lord happens. And Jesus is proclaimed. And that’s good news!

Dead. Dead as dead could be. At Church even. And not one bit of sympathy from the preacher.

Next—fear. A healthy, reverential respect and awe. The realization that God is God and people are not.

Then—miracles. Salvations and healings and deliverances.

These were followed by jail time and beatings and warnings to never tell others about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Finally, rejoicing and publicly telling others about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Wow!
Acts chapter 5. Read all about it, and as you do, let God reveal Himself to you!

If you’ve ever tried to learn a new language, you know it practically takes a miracle😂. Yet, on the Day of Pentecost, 120 people spoke about 13 different languages (Acts 2:9) without Rosetta Stone or Google Translate. How was this possible, and why was it done?

It was possible only through a miracle, and it was done so that people might repent, be baptized, be born again, and be the Church!

Spoiler alert—it worked. (NLT)Acts 2:41, “Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.”

So this outcome begs the question—what did the 120 say in all those different languages? They didn’t talk about the weather, the economy, the upcoming election, or the fun they had on vacation last week. They proclaimed the wonderful works of God (Acts 2:9).
