πŸ”₯ It's another hot one today, Port Jervis.
We're resharing this important heat safety reminder, especially for those taking medications that can increase the risk of heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water, seek air conditioning when possible, and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Stay cool and stay safe. πŸ’™πŸš‘

🚨🌞 Heat Safety Alert: SSRI Medications & High Temps in Port Jervis! 🌞🚨

πŸ“ Port Jervis, NY β€” With temps climbing into the 90s this week and heat indexes even higher, it’s important to know that some common medications like SSRIs (e.g., Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro) can interfere with how your body handles heat.

These meds may reduce your ability to sweat and regulate temperature, making you more vulnerable to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

🧠 SSRIs are often prescribed for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD. If you or someone you know takes these, extra caution is essential in hot weather.

βœ… Safety Tips:
β€’ πŸ’§ Hydrate constantly – carry water everywhere
β€’ 🧒 Stay in the shade or indoors with A/C
β€’ πŸ‘• Wear loose, light-colored clothing
β€’ 🚫 Avoid strenuous activity in peak heat (11 AM – 4 PM)
β€’ πŸ“ž Call 911 if you see signs of heat stroke: confusion, dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat

πŸ”₯ Forecast this week:
β€’ Tuesday: 91Β°F
β€’ Wednesday: 93Β°F
β€’ Thursday: 95Β°F

➑️ It’s going to be hot and humid – protect yourself and check on vulnerable loved ones.

πŸ’¬ Your health matters. When in doubt, cool down and hydrate

Wednesday, members of Port Jervis EMS had the pleasure of participating in the East Main Elementary School 2nd Grade Walking Field Trip around the City of Port Jervis!

Students stopped by to learn about emergency medical services, explore one of our ambulances, see some of the equipment we use every day, and ask some fantastic questions about what EMS providers do to help our community. They even had the opportunity to check out the stretcher, ambulance interior, and some of the lifesaving tools carried on our units.

We love opportunities like this to connect with our community and inspire the next generation of helpers, healthcare providers, and first responders.

A big thank you to the students, teachers, and staff at East Main Elementary for including us in this year’s walking trip. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

πŸ“Έ Check out some photos from Wednesday’s visit below!
