The March convening of the Berkshire Care Network focused on upcoming insurance changes and alerts related to the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act – and the room at the Berkshire Innovation Center was packed!

This topic has our community navigators, health care workers, and agency coordinators reaching out for more information and guidance as changes in 2027 will have an impact on mostly those who access Medicaid, Medicare, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies.

Among those presenting were Charles Redd from Berkshire Health Systems; Jonna, a SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) counselor with Elder Services of Berkshire County, Inc.; David from Advocacy for Access at BHS, which helps uninsured and underinsured access services; and Ilana Steinhauer with VIM Berkshires (Volunteers in Medicine), who spoke from the perspective of serving the immigrant population.

A lot of information was shared – and we hope helpful – because when changes go into effect, "Navigators are going to be the most important link between the state and clients," said Ilana. 👏

Sharing for our friend (and funded partner) Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity because we, too, want to see our neighbors become first-time homeowners. 🏠

This FREE program will address how to repair and build credit, financial pitfalls to watch out for, what is involved in getting a mortgage, how to save for emergencies and large purchases, and more. You don’t have to be in the Habitat program, but this 11-week class *is a requirement* if you are interested in pursuing homeownership down the line.

Classes start June 11. Sign up by emailing [email protected].

Congratulations to Pittsfield High School senior Samseedy Touray on receiving this year's Feigenbaum Scholarship, awarded by The Feigenbaum Foundation President Emil George. Samseedy will be pursing a degree in engineering at UMass Amherst, a field near and dear to late brothers Donald and Armand Feigenbaum.

The Feigenbaum Foundation has long supported Berkshire United Way, so for several years now, we have offered space in our office for the scholarship interview process. This year's panel included Charles Redd (Berkshire Health Systems), Krystle Blake (General Dynamics Mission Systems), Brenda Petell (MountainOne), and Bill Ballen (retired school superintendent).
