This is what community showing up looks like.

The City closed ROOTS. People on the North Side who counted on it have lost a place to find support and connect with help. With winter coming we cannot let this be the end of the story.

Last week one of the people who takes part in our programming spoke at City Council for the first time. He was nervous but he wanted to be there. He lives in this community and knows how important ROOTS is to the people who depend on it. Before it closed he had met some of the ROOTS staff and seen their work up close. We are proud of him for speaking up.

Thank you to everyone who showed up last week. We need more people there this Tuesday October 13 at 10 AM to speak to City Council. You can come in person or sign up to speak online by 9 AM Tuesday.

If he could speak up for the first time you can too. People’s lives are at stake and the City needs to hear from the community. Help us demand that ROOTS reopen.

Happy National Coming Out Day -
Thank you to all the volunteers and community members who showed up yesterday to bring color and care to our street. Your time means so much.
Even when the world feels heavy there is still power in being who you are. Your truth belongs to you and your story unfolds in your own time. You deserve people who see you fully and remind you that joy and possibility still belong to you.
You deserve the freedom to be fully yourself.

World Homelessness Day: QMNTY Cares Pop Up
Sat 10/10 noon to 5pm

Come for Resources and refreshments- Information and reps from Resolve and Hot Dogs and Harm Reduction will be dropping through we will be distributing info from DHS and ROOTS. Join us to Grab Resources and Refreshments.

2- QMNTY Continuum will be closed Monday 10/13 for Indigenous Peoples Day and we will reopen on Tuesday Oct 15 at 12 noon!

ROOTS closed its East Ohio Street doors on October 2. The need did not close with them. People still need a place to get mail and IDs and connect with housing and healthcare support. There is no replacement site or transition plan.

Thank you to our caseworker Natasha for reading remarks on behalf of our Executive Director Dena Stanley when Dena was unable to attend. Dena will be at City Council tomorrow and we need our community there with her.

Join us Tuesday October 6 at 10 AM at the City County Building at 414 Grant Street. We want to see people show up in person. If you cannot attend in person you can sign up to speak on Zoom by 9 AM.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Watch this message from Dena Stanley. Executive Director of TransYOUniting.

Thank you to everyone who showed up this morning and spoke before Pittsburgh City Council to KEEP ROOTS OPEN.

Today was only the beginning.

Closing ROOTS will not simply close a building. It will take away a lifeline from people who depend on it for survival.

ROOTS provides access to warmth. Water. Mail. Identification. Housing support. Health care connections. Crisis support. Trusted case managers. A safe place to go.

Taking that away as winter approaches puts lives at risk. The consequences could be deadly.

We need more community members to stand up and make it clear that Pittsburgh cannot allow this to happen.

The next opportunities to speak are:

Wednesday October 7 at 10 AM
Standing Committees Meeting

You can attend in person or register to speak through Zoom. Registration closes at 9 AM on the morning of each meeting.
