Tuckerr has been adopted, and his story is so special. When we first met 8 year old Tuckerr, he was incredibly shy. He was sweet, but a bit too scared to really engage with us. Tuckerr had lived his whole life with another dog, and without that dog, he didn’t have any confidence. Our foster Dani, who has a soft spot for the dogs that need extra help, offered to take him in.

Her own dog, Enzo, was similar in that he had been passed around and misunderstood before he came to DHDR, and was fostered/rehabbed and adopted by Dani.

Dani followed our slow introduction process, allowing the boys to see each other through gates and slowly get to know each other without pressure. Tuckerr was scared to go into her yard, and scared to interact. As Dani patiently integrated him, and eventually brought the two dogs together, Tuckerr began to blossom. When giving them breaks (the last part of the slow intro process), Tuckerr learned to open doors to make his way to Enzo. Eventually he even began to give Dani the Dober-lean.

The boys were such a perfect fit, Dani decided to make Tuckerr a permanent member of the family. He’s pretty excited, because his favorite place is with Enzo, in Dani’s bed (typically on top of a pile of fresh laundry). ❤️

Welcome sweet Chanel. 🎀 Chanel is a 9 year old female Doberman. She does well with other dogs, loves people, and is a social girl. Chanel came to us very overweight, and with some medical needs. We are getting her a bit healthier before she is available for adoption. Thanks to our partner we’ll have a portion of her surgery paid for to remove a bothersome mass 🖤

Welcome Ruth! This 3 year old blue female has a non-stop wiggle butt and will be available for adoption as soon as we get to know her. So far she is a crate trained sweetie who seems to do well with other dogs.

Do you love Dobermans? We **NEED** you!

Backyard breeders are exploding in Arizona, and we just got news that one of the biggest in the country is moving to here. Pima County alone has 8 Dobermans in its shelter, just today.

The impact of this on our breed will be disastrous, and you all can make a difference!

The No BYB Pledge says I’ll:
1. Never purchase a puppy from a BYB. I will always adopt, or use ethical breeders.
2. Use kindness to educate others. I will stand up for what’s right without using shame.
3. Report dire conditions to the authorities, and still never give money to a BYB, even if it is the only way to “save” the puppy. Giving any amount of $ to a BYB allows them to continue.
4. Recognize that finding a Doberman puppy without using a BYB can take time and patience.
5. Remember that some BYBs breed inside their homes, have pretty social media, and look clean, so I will always consult the Ethical Breeder Checklist.

Why?
- BYBs are the #1 reason for our high rescue volume and shelter overpopulation. Ethical breeders always take their dogs back.

- BYB Dobermans are sold without guidance and often are bred from dogs of concerning temperament. Critical early weeks socialization, training, and litter interaction is missed, resulting in Dobermans that are fearful, hard to live with, or aggressive. This is hard on owners, hard on rescues, and perpetuates a bad stereotype for Dobermans.

- BYB dogs are not health tested and puppies often have health issues from lineage, or treatment after they are born.

Many people, including some of our own leadership, made a mistake in buying from a non-reputable breeder their first time around. Don’t beat yourself up. Learn, educate others, and take the No BYB pledge! Visit this page to download our Ethical Breeder Checklist. You can ask for proof of these items from any breeder. If they don’t meet the checklist, don’t give them your money! https://azdoberescue.org/bone-up/breeders

Our special tripawd boy Romeo has been adopted! This cutie has come a long way since being found as an injured stray in November, getting FHO surgery, and eventually an amputation. We are so happy for this forever Doberman family!
