🚑 Julie is a 1 year old stray who was hit by a car this week - can you help us save her leg? 🚨 This sweet girl was hit by a car and brought into the emergency vet. They found right rear tibia fractures and transferred her to Arizona Humane Society. Because she is so young, and not done growing, she then came to DHDR so we could save her leg instead of doing an amputation. We have scheduled surgery for tomorrow, which will cost at least $6k. Anything you can contribute will help us in saving the leg! Julie will be available for adoption as soon as she heals.

Dolly needs your help! Last month, two Doberman puppies were found abandoned in a park. After no owner was found, they were surrendered to DHDR. We were puzzled as to why Dolly was so much smaller than the other puppy, Parton. Testing showed that Dolly has Megaesophagus. Many ‘ME’ dogs need to eat and sometimes drink in a Bailey Chair, which keeps them upright. They typically need more regular vet care, and specific routines.

Megaesophagus is a disorder that prevents the esophagus—the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach—from moving food and water normally. While serious, many dogs live meaningful, happy lives with proper management and committed care. Dolly is currently doing well and can even take some treats without being upright.

We need your help to find a committed adopter, up for a rewarding, special needs pup. Please help us share Dolly’s story.

Dojo, known to some as Thomas, has been picked up and won’t ever see a shelter again. 🎉 Last year, Thomas came into MCACC as a stray, quite thin. He was adopted. This year, he was picked up by AHS after his owner abandoned him with someone else who surrendered him, quite overweight. Going from 62 to 104, Dojo gained 42 lbs in just a year. The cause for his facial deformity is unclear - we believe it is either an old injury to his head, or congenital. This sweet guy is safe and sound in a DHDR foster home, and will be available for adoption soon. So far we know he does great with handling, and does well with other dogs. We’ll work on getting him to a healthy weight, and ensure he starts to feel safe after a tough start to life.

Say hello to this cutie! No, he’s not a sea turtle, Ave is a 4 year old albino Doberman. This affectionate, happy-go-lucky boy is a true people dog who melts for contact. He’s so great, he was quickly matched with an applicant who had already applied, and will be adopted in the coming weeks.

Don’t forget - Albino (white) is not a color allowed by the AKC or DPCA. It does not happen by accident – ethical breeders ensure they never breed with this genetic mutation. When Albinos are bred, the breeder is at best unethical, and at worst driven by greed. Albino Dobermans can have issues in the sun and require careful management to prevent skin cancer. Some can even have behavior problems. Help us by spreading the word that buying Albinos from breeders is not ok.

Another day, another seal 🦭. Business as usual here at DHDR. Blu is a one year old, all natural, black and rust Doberman. This sweet boy can be a bit shy, but loves to play with other dogs, and thinks he is a lap dog. Blu enjoys puzzles and toys, and is such a quick learner. Crate training and leash training are still in progress for Blu, and he is exciting to get ongoing training to build confidence. This boy is just darling! Apply now to keep Blu forever.

‼️ Warning: puppy fever may be contracted after watching these videos of Rascal ➡️

Rascal was purchased at 5 weeks old and surrendered to DHDR about a week later. We’ve worked on lots of appropriate socialization since he left his litter too soon (at least 8 weeks is best). He is such a joy!

If you are interested in a puppy be sure to check out our application process and puppy waiting list info at link in bio, or comment Puppy below.
