Members of ACF’s Executive Team recently returned from a four-day visit to Page Lake Powell, a resilient Northern Arizona community located near the Utah border.
While ACF is often recognized for our work in larger metro areas, the role of a community foundation is just as important in Arizona’s rural and remote communities. Our Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff office serves as a regional hub for a wide and diverse part of the state, including Flagstaff, Williams, Hopi, Tuba City, Winslow, and Page, which is roughly 270 miles north of Phoenix.
In Page Lake Powell, ACF holds four dedicated funds established specifically to benefit local residents. Our local volunteer steering committee plays a vital role in this work by helping connect neighbors to ACF’s mission, encouraging nonprofits to apply for grants, and reviewing local grant and scholarship applications.
Page has experienced major economic shifts in recent years, including the 2019 closure of the Navajo Generating Station.
Today, tourism remains a key part of the local economy, with destinations like Lake Powell, Horseshoe Bend, and Antelope Canyon drawing visitors from around the world. At the same time, the community continues to navigate challenges tied to lower water levels, shifts in regional tourism, and broader changes in travel.
During the visit, our team met with leaders and partners from the City of Page, Page Lake Powell Chamber of Commerce, Victim Witness Services, Glen Canyon Conservancy, Coconino Community College, local donors, and members of our Page Lake Powell steering committee.
