Did we mention that the Glory brought home the Biggest Splash Award from the Kinetic Grand Championship over Memorial Day weekend?

While we’re still soaking up all the awesomeness and whimsy we experienced at the race down in California, we’re already shifting our attention to the next race on our home turf at the July 18-19 in Corvallis where we’ll be defending last year’s GKC trophies for Best Art, Best Bribes, and Best Use of Theme.

We’re transforming the Glory from the Magic School Bus to something a more colorful, more whimsical, and way more funky - and we’re inviting you to join in on the funky fun.

Volunteer work parties will be kicking off in just a few weeks. Contact [email protected] for more information about how you can get involved.

Because some of the best conversations happen over a hot cup of tea with a creative project in hand…

Join us for another Seniors Get Craft-Tea on Tuesday, June 2, from 10:00 AM–Noon at Maxtivity. These gatherings are becoming a favorite way for local seniors to connect, create, and build community—and there’s always room for new faces at the table. Come see what makes Seniors Get Craft-Tea such a warm and welcoming monthly tradition.

FOR THE GLORY!

Over Memorial Day weekend, Team Glory traveled to Humboldt County, California, to compete in the legendary Kinetic Grand Championship, AKA “The Triathlon of the Art World.”

Forty-eight teams from across the country competed in this 50-mile test of ingenuity, endurance, teamwork, and whimsy across roads, beaches, water crossings, mud pits, and just about every obstacle imaginable.

We’re thrilled to share that the Glory brought home two honors: the Titan Award (Largest Vehicle) and the Biggest Splash Award (see first photo).

These awards belong to an incredible team of volunteers who poured hundreds and hundreds of hours into preparing the Glory for this adventure. Led by Captain Rob Lorensen, the team included pilots Laura, Martin, Dave, and Aiden; pit crew members Gen, Robbie, Steve, Mike, Stacey, and Ken; and many other volunteers who contributed their time, skills, creativity, and determination along the way. Extra big shoutout to Scott Ramsay and the crew at Ram-Z Fab for helping make major upgrades before the race, including new brakes.

The Glory is more than a kinetic sculpture. It’s a community project, a rolling STEAM laboratory, a work of art, and a testament to what happens when people come together to build something extraordinary.

Join us July 18–19 at the and in Corvallis, where Team Glory will once again take to the road, water, mud, and sand.

For the Glory!

What happens when young artists are given space to lead?

The .art.collective is a new initiative created and led by two young artists who wanted more than just a place to make art. They want to build community with other creative peers, share ideas, collaborate on projects, and create opportunities for young artists to be seen and celebrated. We’re honored to help bring that vision to life, with the support of Maxtivity teaching artists and mentors.

The collective is now meeting at our studio on Saturdays from 1–4pm, inviting teens age 14–19yo to work on individual and collaborative projects. And that’s just the beginning. Collective members will have multiple upcoming opportunities to show and sell their work (more details on that coming soon!).

No cost to participate. No sign up necessary. All materials provided. Just bring your ideas, curiosity, and creative energy. Contact [email protected] or message .art.collective for more information - and be sure to follow them on Instagram too!

✨Volunteer Spotlight✨ Meet Jane Sherwood.

If you’ve stopped by one of our Seniors Get Craft-Tea gatherings, chances are you’ve experienced the warmth, humor, creativity, and community spirit that Jane Sherwood brings into every room she enters.

Jane was one of the driving forces behind launching these free monthly gatherings for seniors, held the first Tuesday of every month from 10am–Noon. Through her work with the City Inclusivity Committee and Philomath Sensational Senior Society, she helped imagine opportunities where seniors — especially those living on fixed incomes — could connect with one another, discover resources, learn new skills, and simply enjoy being together.

A retired school teacher who moved to Philomath to be closer to family, Jane was recognized at the 2026 Samaritan Awards for her incredible volunteer service through Maxtivity, the Philomath Sensational Senior Society, the City Inclusivity Committee, elementary school reading programs, and beyond.

What we love most about Jane is the way she embodies the heart of community arts. She uses her own creative gifts not just to make beautiful things, but to help create spaces where people feel welcomed, connected, and valued. Her impact can be seen in the friendships formed around craft tables, the laughter shared over tea, and the growing sense of belonging she helps nurture throughout our community.

Thank you, Jane, for all the ways you help make our community more vibrant, joyful, and connected.

We had another incredible Friday with our friends from , and we’re still smiling from it!

This spring, we’ve been hosting middle school youth from their Brilliant Cousins program as they work together on a collaborative art project, and this past Friday we welcomed their elementary girls program into the studio for an afternoon of clay creations, spontaneous dance parties, and the beginnings of a collaborative project of their own.

More details — and more smile-filled studio sessions — to come.
