This summer, we asked thousands of children to make masks that represent the superpower that will enable them to become Revolutionary Action Heroes. What better way to learn more about the designs than to ask the designers themselves! We spoke to some of our campers about their color and material choices, the historical figures that inspired them, and much more.

Now that the summer camp season has concluded, we have received photo submissions of more masks from other campers throughout the city. We invite you to visit our Revolutionary Action Heroes Gallery at Smith this weekend to see our collection!

August 14th was the last day of our 2026 Summer Camp! Our Summers @ Smith program is a 6-week program that incorporates the value of play alongside education. Campers visited farms, museums, and an indoor skydiving center while learning about the environment, STEM, History, and so much more.

Our campers also participated in Philadelphia 250 initiatives such as the Revolutionary Action Heroes Project and our Time Capsule that will be sealed in November. Thank you to Smith's staff and volunteers for making this one of the most exciting summers in Philadelphia!

Today marks the end of our incredible 2026 Summer Camp! Our Summers @ Smith program is a 6-week program that incorporates the value of play alongside education. Campers visited farms, museums, and an indoor skydiving center while learning about the environment, STEM, History, and so much more.

Our Time Capsule aims to preserve all types of art for Philadelphia's future children, including sound! We partnered with The Clef Club of Philadelphia last month to help us create something special.

"Soundscapes for Tomorrow," Clef's nationally recognized initiative for resident artists, provided the soundtrack, audio-editing tools, and guidance throughout the session. Children were asked to record their thoughts and messages, but also sing and perform using a wide array of musical instruments.

We are thankful to all the artists and staff of The Clef Club for helping us create a historical audio piece for the children of 2076 to open. Stay tuned to find out when you can hear the final product!

For the past few months, we've been asking our campers and patrons to send a message to children of the future. We've collected drawings, photographs, letters, and much more to put into a time capsule right here at Smith! In less than three months, we will finally seal it for fifty years until America's 300th birthday in 2076. 😮

There's still time to participate! We are accepting letters, drawings, etc. until our sealing ceremony on November 7th. Want to learn how you can submit? Visit SmithPlayground.org to see what items are on our list, and stay tuned to our socials to learn how you can participate!
