We’re holding another $5 Friday! Our Venmo Grocery Fund is very low (that’s ok, that means we got a lot of groceries for our neighbors!)

Anyone who contributes $5 or more this weekend will get a sticker. All donations go right to stocking food for the community.

Are you looking for ways to help your community? Cooking a meal, making a sandwich or salad, or even boxing up a side and dropping it off at the fridge is a great option! Many of our neighbors don’t have access to a kitchen, can’t stand for long periods of time, or don’t always have all the ingredients to make a full meal. Many of our neighbors could use a break and having a night off from planning and cooking a whole meal for a family can be a huge relief.

It doesn’t have to be completed either! Sharing food with others is truly a wonderful way to show you care. Just remember to add an ingredient label and date. Spelling mistakes are ok. We don’t judge.

Prices are rising across the board and it’s putting even more of our neighbors in really tough situations. Since the fall, food pantries are seeing an estimated 30% increase in use. Being the only fridge in Northeast Philly, we are seeing use skyrocket weekly.

Community fridges aren’t a perfect system, but they allow people to take immediate action to help their neighbors. We are a group of volunteers running this pantry completely on donations and strong will, and we always appreciate a helping hand. Consider contributing some extra resources you might have. It can be a few dollars, some food, or some time. Every bit adds up to a lasting impact.

Every Tuesday a volunteer drives down near the airport for 1 of 2 weekly produce pickups. This haul will be added to the fridge until it’s gone. Then we have a whole new pickup on Friday!

Our friends at the Commodore Barry Irish Center often call us when they have extra food from events. Last night one of our volunteers and volunteer from Germantown Fridge were able to make 96 meals and sandwiches and get them into 3 neighborhood fridges in a late night drop.

This is what community looks like. These acts aren’t small, they are immediate action putting food within reach of our neighbors.

A huge thank you to John at the Irish Center for your constant generosity and to the people that show up when they can to support our neighbors.
