SEPTEMBER 9: The Philadelphia Film Society, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America- Pennsylvania, and Stenton present For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation — a docuseries, directed by Andrew Ferrett, bringing to life the stories of pioneering women who helped shape the United States, but whose names rarely appear in history books.

The evening will feature four episodes from the series, including the stories of Dinah, who celebrates 250 years of requesting and gaining her freedom; Elin Kunders, a German Quaker immigrant known as the “Mother of Germantown”; and Elizabeth Coates Paschall, a healer and community pillar in colonial Philadelphia. A fourth episode featuring Margaret Mattson, a settler of New Sweden accused of witchcraft by the newly arrived British government, will make its Philadelphia public premiere.

ATTENTION PFS MEMBERS: Have you been to one of our SURPRISE 35! screenings and thought to yourself "I wish they'd play MY favorite movie from the last 35 years!"? Well now's your chance!

Philadelphia Film Society Young Friends’ August film club is coming up soon and we will be showing 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine! This movie is tender and feels like a warm hug. If you’ve seen it, you know how special it is. If you haven’t, this is your time to stop pushing it off and come cross it off your watchlist!

This month’s Film Club will be held at the The Philadelphia Film Society Film Center on Thursday, August 27. I hope you come out and see it on the big screen with us!!
