βοΈπΊπΈ Congratulations to 2nd grader Maeve Ridgeway on receiving an Honorable Mention in the 2026 Writers Matter Writing Contest!
This year, St. Laurentius students participated in the Writers Matter Program, an educational initiative that encourages students to strengthen their writing skills through personal expression. Students were asked to share their dream for America through their writing.
Maeve began her submission with an I Am reflective poem about what it means to be an American and then shared her vision for our country's future:
"In the future I hope America will be a country that has hope, peace, joy, happiness and freedom. I hope for kindness, gratefulness, people helping each other and people playing outside. I wish we can welcome people from different countries. If we did not have those things, what kind of place would this be? I wish for people to be kind to each other and I hope for people to stay together no matter big or small, black or white, women or men. I want there to be nature! I wish for peace, joy, love, and happiness to reign over this country. I want people to be safe and healthy. I hope for people to protect nature because if you do not, you will not have food. I hope we always remember who built this country."
We are so proud of Maeve for this outstanding accomplishment and for sharing such a thoughtful and inspiring message. Congratulations, Maeve! ππ
