Friends of Penn Treaty School

Friends of Penn Treaty School Mission Statement: We support, encourage, and advocate for the Penn Treaty School community of curre backgrounds.

Organization Values

Connection—
We’re committed to connecting Penn Treaty School with the local community (including individuals, businesses, and faith communities), and the community with Penn Treaty School; connecting alumni with current students; connecting parents with the school, and the school with parents; connecting students with volunteer opportunities outside of the school; connecting t

eachers, students, and families to resources. Empowerment—
We’re committed to empowering alumni to give back; the community to overcome their suspicion of public schools and teenagers; Penn Treaty teachers to reach out for help and form partnerships with the community; volunteers to meet tangible needs. Reconciliation—
We’re committed to addressing issues/concerns voiced by ALL stakeholders, a group that includes people of a variety of language, racial, economic, religious, political, etc. There is great need for this in an area of both de facto segregation and gentrification. Consistency—
We’re committed to being a consistent support for Penn Treaty School. In the current educational climate, resources, personnel, programs, and finances come and go. We are creating a sustainable group that is not reliant on any one person or funding source. We recognize that both short-term and long-term solutions are needed and that trust is a prerequisite.

Proud of students for registering to vote!

Our Voter Champion partnership with the School District of Philadelphia netted a 93% increase in voter registration by public high school students this school year, from 15% to 29%! There’s still a lot of work to do—especially in our neighborhood schools, but let’s celebrate our wins!!!

• 1,102 Philly student voter registrations confirmed through the PA Youth Vote portal and by Voter Champion reporting.
• 7 district schools won the PA Department of State's Governor’s Civic Engagement Award with over 65% registration rates.
• 12 schools registered more than 50% of eligible voters.

So proud of the students who exercised their democratic rights today! It was especially meaningful to hear Riley share how she has been connected to Penn Treaty since the age of 6, when she started volunteering with Friends of Penn Treaty School. Now she's a HS freshman, defending a school that has felt like home to her for almost a decade.
