Neshoba Youth Coalition BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS! The youth leadership program began in October of 2010.

It was formed in response to the work of the Philadelphia Coalition that recognized the disconnect between the civil rights generation and the post civil rights generation. The idea was to develop a program that would provide our young leaders with the knowledge to make intelligent and informed decisions that lead to positive and sustainable change. Our Mission:
Neshoba Youth Coalition’s mission is to develop academic skills, behaviors, and attitudes in academically motivated teens to improve their grades, standardized test scores, attendance, and opportunities. Our purpose is to contribute to the healing of the Philadelphia community by uplifting its most vulnerable students. The need for the project rose from discussions among the members of the Philadelphia Coalition about the problems Philadelphia youth were having in school and in the community, so the focus is on empowering these students to succeed in school and life. The program teaches the youth through the lenses of history, past and present, to ask critical questions concerning what has happened in the past, what were the conditions or environment that allowed these things to happen and how do we develop strategies that prevent these things from happening again.

For years, we have said at the Neshoba Youth Coalition that if we can change attitudes, we can change behaviors, and eventually we can change conditions.
I am extremely proud of these young people, but I am just as proud of what their generation is showing us.
They are building relationships.
They are breaking down barriers.
They are creating a different story for our community.
The lighthouse has always represented what we want NYC to be, a light helping young people see what is possible.
And looking at these young people today, one thing is becoming very clear:
IT'S THEIR TURN NOW!
Their turn to lead.
Their turn to build.
Their turn to make Philadelphia stronger.
And our responsibility is to make sure they have the opportunity to do it.
Young People Stronger. Relationships Deeper. Community Stronger. Opportunities Greater. Philadelphia Brighter.

We are searching for the next generation of forestry leaders!
The NextGen Forestry Scholarship provides eligible students with an opportunity to pursue a degree in Forest Management at Mississippi State University, with scholarship support of up to $20,000 per year for four years.
This is more than a scholarship. It is a pathway into one of Mississippi’s most important industries and a chance to build a meaningful career protecting and managing the natural resources that help power our state.
If you know a student who is hardworking, ready for college, and interested in forestry, environmental stewardship, or outdoor careers, please share this opportunity with them.
