When we talk about the transformative power of gardening, this is what we mean 🌱

You don't need a lot of space to make a lasting impact on your community, a little gardening can go a long way and the Nicetown and Tioga Greening Plan, Curb Appeal Challenge encourages residents to beautify their front gardens and builds stronger neighborhood connection the process.

A program that PHS start four years ago, The 2026 Curb Appeal Challenge was the biggest one yet, with 120 participants! Throughout the growing season, neighbors learn from one another, share plants and gardening tips, and work together to create greener, more welcoming blocks.

Succulents have become the houseplant it girl because of their striking shapes, colors, and textures ✨ These resilient plants are as stylish as they are easy to care for!

Why Succulent Care is So Simple:

🪴 They store water in their thick, fleshy leaves, making them incredibly drought-tolerant
🪴 They don’t mind a bit of neglect
🪴 They thrive in the same conditions most homes provide
🪴 They don’t require frequent watering
🪴 They are perfect for busy households or new plant parents

Summertime will surprise you in the Azalea Garden ☀️

Nestled between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Boathouse Row, the Azalea Garden's time to shine is in the Spring when the foliage grows. Though for the next couple weeks in late summer flowers emerge with no foliage, like the Lycoris squamigera, resurrection lily pictured above, so don't miss this bloom!

PHS planted new swamp milkweed this Spring, and Azalea Garden has begun to receive new visitors, monarch butterflies!

Despite the summer heat, fall is right around the corner 🍂

While it may be too late to plant summer crops like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, sweet potatoes, and winter squash, we still have plenty of time to grow herbs 🌿

August is the prime time to take a break from all but the most limited plantings and do some shady maintenance 😎
