As the charitable arm of Philadelphia Adult League Softball, we work with partners and communities around the world to expand access to softball and baseball for young people and adults, and our programs emphasize inclusion and fun while promoting gender equity, youth development, and social justice. We focus on long-term partnerships that engage and support individuals often marginalized in sports and our current initiatives are in Philadelphia, Belize, and Sierra Leone. Our vision is a world where sports are always inclusive, accessible, and equitable for everyone, and where young people and adults can play the sports they love without barriers and with the holistic support, encouragement, and resources that they need on and off the field.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for another amazing donation from our friends at Lower Merion Little League! We are so grateful for the ongoing support from LMLL and President Wally Orlov and for their steadfast commitment to ensuring young people have the gear that they need to be able to play, both in Philly and around the world! The jerseys, hats, cleats, sneakers, pants, gloves, bats, and more will be a huge help and we can never thank LMLL enough!

In Belize, we had so much fun hosting a softball clinic for 38 young people in Independence Village in southern Belize in coordination with the Independence Village Council and the Belize Softball Federation! In addition to learning skills and having a blast out on the field, each participant also received lunch and a new backpack! We were also thrilled to be able to donate three bags of softball and baseball equipment including gloves, bats, balls, helmets, and catcher’s gear to help support our partners’ efforts to revive the sport in the district and engage more young people in playing, which is currently difficult due to lack of access to equipment. Thank you so much to Shermaine Young of the Independence Village Council and her team of volunteers as well as to Shane Williams of the Belize Softball Federation for making the clinic such a success!🥎

We want to say such a huge thank you to Donald Anderson and Corey Smith for their generous donation of $200 to support our sports-based youth development programming! Donald and Corey have been hosting BBQ fundraisers at 47th and Brown in West Philly over the past few weeks to raise money for youth initiatives in the Mill Creek area, and we are so grateful that they chose to support our work! Donald, who works at the Tiffany Fletcher Rec Center, is a dedicated volunteer with Change Up Sports (and former Philadelphia Adult League Softball player) and has a longstanding commitment to supporting young people in Mill Creek and beyond. In fact, we first partnered with Donald nearly 15 years ago when he ran a t-ball program at the field and have been thrilled to work together ever since! If you’d like to support Donald and Corey’s fundraising efforts while getting some delicious food, make sure to stop by their table on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 6pm during PALS games for cheeseburgers, hotdogs, sausage, and more! While in Belize, we also had the pleasure to meet with Marconi Leal, Jr., President of the Belize Softball Federation and member of the House of Representatives of Belize, along with our two longtime partners Bryan Grant and Shane Williams of the Belize Softball Federation. We discussed how we can continue to work together to reduce barriers to softball and baseball throughout the country, especially by thinking of additional ways to both help provide equipment and connect the Federation with additional equipment suppliers. Softball and baseball gear is very expensive and difficult to access in Belize and we are so happy to be able to play a small role in making it more accessible!🥎⚾️

Last week, we were thrilled to be back in Belize to continue to develop and support our partnerships there to expand access to softball and baseball for young people! This was our first time traveling to southern Belize, where we were happy to connect with Peace Corps Belize volunteer Michael Annan, who serves as part of the Youth Empowered by Sports (YES) initiative, to provide softball equipment–including bats, gloves, softballs, and catchers’ gear–for Holy Angels R.C. School and St. Michael’s Anglican School in Pomona in Stann Creek District. These donations will support their efforts to start a softball program there and we were so excited to be able to help! Thanks so much to Michael as well as Holy Angels principal Esan Gutierrez and teacher Emily Viera and to our longtime partner and Belize Softball Federation representative Shane Williams for being there for the equipment distribution. Baseball was such a hit at our first More Than Sports program clinic at the Tiffany Fletcher Rec Center this summer that we decided to do it again! 42 campers and teenage counselors had such a blast practicing their batting and fielding skills while also having the best time running around the bases! They also got to enjoy lots of healthy snacks and treats (including delicious cookies generously donated by Green Line Cafe!) and receive a new backpack, school supplies, and trophy, thanks to the support of the PHLY Foundation! Special thanks goes out to Denial Print Co for sponsoring the t-shirts for this summer’s clinics and to our wonderful volunteers Roth Bernstein, Jacob Goldsmith, Jim O’Donnell, Miranda Stein, Emily Neil, and Donald Anderson for facilitating this session! For our second More Than Sports program clinic of the summer, we had the best time heading back to Tiffany Fletcher Rec Center to host a fun-filled session focused on softball/baseball with 32 young people as part of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation’s camp! This is our sixth year hosting clinics there, and it is so rewarding to work with so many of the same kids year after year while also welcoming lots of new faces! Not only did the campers get to learn the basics of the game but they also got to enjoy lots of healthy and tasty treats, thanks to a grant from PHLY Foundation! Special thanks to our awesome volunteers including Zakaria Ouedraogo, Jim O’Donnell, Jacob Goldsmith, Sam Romain, Donald Anderson, Jackii Laurenzano, and Stephen Bronskill for facilitating the clinic and Green Line Cafe for donating lots of delicious cookies! We had so much fun being back with African Family Health Organization (AFAHO) to host a softball/baseball clinic at their annual summer camp through our More Than Sports program! AFAHO provides culturally-sensitive health, human, and educational services to African and Caribbean immigrants and refugees in the greater Philadelphia area and it is always a blast to work together on programming. 23 young people joined us this time at Bartram's Garden to learn some softball/baseball basics and play a game designed for teaching and learning and everyone did an amazing job! Participants also got to enjoy lots of healthy snacks and treats and receive a new backpack, school supplies, t-shirt, and trophy. We are so grateful to PHLY Foundation for making this session possible and to our awesome volunteers Zakaria Ouedraogo, Sam Romain, Jim O’Donnell, Emily Farquhar, and Jacob Goldsmith for facilitating the clinic! And, special thanks to Green Line Cafe for donating chocolate chip cookies for all of the campers. Thanks again for having us, AFAHO! Can’t wait until next time!

We were thrilled to donate more than 100 new book bags for this coming Saturday’s free book bag giveaway at the Lucien E. Blackwell Center in West Philly to help students in the Mill Creek area prepare to head back to school!
