We’re in our final week of “Listening to the Streets,” and it’s been an incredible journey! This week, our mentees are diving into their first session with Dr. Scott, who is breaking down the stigma around therapy for Black men.

Through her guidance, they’re discovering that seeking help isn’t a weakness—it’s a strength. Watching them open up and share their stories is truly inspiring! Together, we’re empowering our community to embrace mental health and foster healing. Let’s keep breaking barriers! 💯

We gathered to celebrate 24 remarkable young men who are graduating from 8th grade and moving on to high school this year with a special brunch. Some of these young men are from our very first Listening to The Streets cohort in middle schools. The event was filled with warmth as our adult mentors came out to show their support and love for these young achievers.

This gathering was not just a brunch, it was a heartfelt moment to uplift our young men as they embark on their next journey. We captured many memorable moments, and more footage from the Senior Brunch will be available on our website soon.

Additionally, look out for more photos and details in our upcoming June newsletter, where you’ll read more about the Listening to The Streets cohort. The newsletter will arrive in your mailbox on Wednesday. If you haven’t signed up yet and would like to receive it, just send us a direct message with your email address, and we’ll make sure you’re included.

Until then, enjoy the video highlights, and we’ll see you all on Wednesday!

On the third night of Listening to the Streets, the energy was electric! Mentor Jerome Moore and Job Developer Christina Talley had our team fully engaged. In one room, Christina discussed expectations, while in another, Jerome emphasized the importance of being interview-ready. Meanwhile, Mentors Shawn and Bill focused on the essential soft skills needed for success.

We’ve been doing this for some time, but I can confidently say this was the first night everything was spot on. Most of the guys left with their button-ups and ties still on. It was pure joy!

Empowering Our Mentees at ManupPHL!

Today, Rashid Bey led an impactful session about the effects of social media on mental health. Here are the highlights:

- Algorithms Matter: Recognize how social media pulls you in.

- Mindful Scrolling: Shift from mindless scrolling to intentional engagement.

- Combat Social Comparison: Remember, social media is often a highlight reel, not reality.

- Digital Detox: Take breaks to recharge and reconnect in real life.

- Positive Feeds: Follow accounts that uplift you!

At Solis‑Cohen, our students had the opportunity to work side‑by‑side with ManUpPHL mentors during classroom activities.
From group discussions to hands‑on learning, the mentors jumped right in listening, guiding, and helping students build confidence in real time.
Seeing our young people engage, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning reminds us why mentorship matters.
Strong relationships create strong futures.
