Promising new clinical trials at the Hadassah Medical Organization are offering fresh hope in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Philip Blumenfeld, director of Hadassah's Advanced Radiotherapy Unit, shared his findings with the Cancer Network, including 100% local disease control in two pancreatic cancer trials using Alpha DaRT. This innovative treatment delivers radiation directly into tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

Among the patients evaluated, tumors either shrank or stopped growing at the treated site, and no serious treatment-related side effects were reported.

"As a radiation oncologist and member of a multidisciplinary pancreatic cancer team, I see these results as potentially addressing a significant unmet need from several clinical perspectives," said Dr. Blumenfeld.

With pancreatic cancer remaining one of the most challenging cancers to treat, advances like these underscore the power of groundbreaking research and the lifechanging impact of medical innovation.

Not many people can say a complete stranger recognized them by their voice alone.

When a man approached Pnina Sharon while she was shopping in Jerusalem and insisted he knew her from somewhere, she immediately asked: "You underwent open heart surgery?"

"I reassured him before surgery and he remembered my voice. It was very moving."

For 40 years, Sharon has been a source of comfort, compassion and leadership at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. From caring for patients undergoing open-heart surgery to leading emergency preparedness efforts across the hospital, her commitment has never wavered.

As head nurse of the Emergency Department, she even created a "boutique shop" for patients who had no clothing to wear home after treatment.

"So they wouldn't leave in pajamas, we would give them clothing along with the respect they deserved."

Today, as Director of the Internal Medicine, Emergency Department and Emergency Preparedness Division, Sharon continues to shape the future of nursing and patient care while inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Her guiding principle remains simple:

"I tell the nurses: Be good to the patients. In the end, we are here for them."

Congratulations to Pnina Sharon, recipient of the Nancy Falchuk Outstanding Nursing Award, for her extraordinary professionalism, leadership and dedication to compassionate care.

Antisemitism has reached alarming levels, and it's getting more violent. Congress is considering the Jewish American Security Act, a comprehensive, bipartisan strategy to increase security funding and address antisemitism in our schools, communities and on social media.

Eleanor Roosevelt’s legacy and Hadassah’s shared history inspire us this Jewish American Heritage Month 💙

When Eleanor Roosevelt visited our Poughkeepsie chapter in 1952, she praised Hadassah for doing "so much good work both here and in Israel."

By then, she had been widowed for seven years and was at the height of her public life: serving as US delegate to the United Nations General Assembly and gracing the cover of Time that same year.

Her connection to Hadassah ran deep: in 1949, she had accepted our very first Henrietta Szold Award at the Waldorf Astoria.

This , we reflect on the strong ties that are a part of our shared history. đź’™
