🦅 Does becoming an Eagle Scout truly set you apart? A new study by The Harris Poll surveyed thousands of adults to see how Eagle Scouts compare to those who were never in Scouting.

The study: “𝘌𝘢𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘚𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴: 𝘈 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴-𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦,” shows that Eagle Scouts possess lifelong strengths and a value-based foundation that genuinely sets them apart from their peers.

This week’s Artifact of the Week takes a closer look at those iconic stamped metal belt loops, small pieces that carried a big sense of progress and pride. Each one represented a skill learned, a milestone reached, and a step forward on the Scouting journey.

Merit badges are more than advancement. They open doors to new skills, confidence, and real-world learning.

To enhance that experience, Scouting America has introduced new digital resource guides. These free online tools complement traditional merit badge pamphlets with videos, downloadable resources, and interactive content designed to meet Scouts where they are.

From Aviation to Communication, these guides make learning more engaging and accessible by allowing Scouts to watch, read, and explore topics in different ways. They also give merit badge counselors new tools to connect with Scouts and enrich instruction.

With more guides on the way, this is a strong step forward in modernizing how Scouts learn, grow, and prepare for the future.

🔧 𝟴𝟬 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

Scouting America has modernized 80 merit badges to reflect today’s technology, safety standards and career pathways.

From adding Bluetooth, 5G and RFID to the Radio merit badge to integrating 3D printing into Model Design and Building, these updates help Scouts build relevant, real-world skills. Personal Fitness received a major overhaul to improve accessibility and clarity, and several badges now include both career and hobby options.

These changes took effect January 1, 2026.
