Last night we, FLX Unity Center and Ontario Cares, had the opportunity to host a table at Geneva 2030 and Geneva City Schools Cares Night Spring Festival for elementary students and their families; creating a space for interactive springtime and culturally relevant activities 🌸🎨
We chose face painting, because what says spring more than bright colors, creativity, and a little imagination? Buuuut we also wanted to make it meaningful. So we introduced students to the iconic Mexican figure, La Catrina.
Through art and conversation, we shared that La Catrina represents an important cultural belief: that death is a natural part of life and that, in the end, it unites us all, regardless of status or wealth. She’s a powerful symbol of both honor and celebration, especially during Día de los Mu***os.
It was beautiful to see curiosity, creativity, and culture come together in one space. Moments like these remind us how important it is to create opportunities for young people to learn, express themselves, and connect across traditions.
