Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp Stroke Survivors and Caregivers enjoy a weekend of relaxation, education, socialization, and support at many locations around the country.

This page will post information about our weekend retreats that are provided for stroke survivors and caregivers throughout the country. Based in Peoria, IL, our teams travel across the USA bringing everything necessary to provide a weekend of fun, relaxation, and education. This is done through the sponsorship of hospitals and stroke centers who recognize there is a need to support long-term stro

ke survivors. Every activity throughout the weekend is geared to our population. It is as much for the caregiver as it is the survivor. Music, crafts, games, hotel-style accommodations, education, discussion, laughter, and more await. Check us out at www.strokecamp.org to see dates and locations of our camps.

We know that Dolly was looking down from heaven Saturday night to lift stroke survivors Donna and Wendi as they sang one of Dolly's trademark songs, "Jolene." They were accompanied by music therapist Shaina at Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp sponsored by Encompass Health in Arizona. Some people may say, "So what?" But it was a miracle in action as both Donna and Wendi have aphasia, difficulty in speech, which can be very challenging for many stroke survivors. Music therapists have helped Stroke Camp campers — survivors and caregivers — find new voices as music can unlock certain parts of the brain. Sing along with us … as this was the song Donna and Wendi chose. Thank you Dolly!

We can’t survive and serve stroke survivors and caregivers without our many sponsors and events like weekly bingo in the Peoria area that has been a constant for us for more than a decade. Stroke survivors test themselves everyday. Watch survivor Brent Higgins of the Peoria area show his dedication to rebuilding his body after a stroke four years ago. The fourth annual FXB Kickboxing for Stroke Awareness fundraiser was held last week at Farrell's Extreme Bodyshaping in East Peoria, thanks to sponsors Farrell's, Dixon Fisheries and Standard Heating & Cooling.
