The Good Idea Council had an amazing experience touring Peoria Players Theatre!

Students got a behind-the-scenes look at the magic of live productions — from lighting and sound to backdrops and costumes. Families also discovered ways to volunteer and support this historic theater.

To show our support, the Good Idea Council donated over $100 from our change jars toward Peoria Players’ much-needed bathroom renovation project — a project that will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

$100 may seem small, but imagine if 5,000 people each gave $100 — the renovations would be fully funded in no time!

Every little bit helps preserve the magic of Peoria Players for generations to come.

The Good Idea Council’s March Meeting Recap!

This month, our members gathered at the beautiful Peoria Zoo Zambezi Lodge for a fun and meaningful meeting. We counted coins from our Change for Change jars, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and learned all about the Peoria Zoo’s Adopt an Animal Project. Afterward, we spent time together exploring the zoo and its incredible animals!

We’re proud to share that our members raised $86.38 to support Peoria Players’ major restroom renovation. In April, our change will go towards adopting an animal, and we’ll also take a tour of Peoria Players to learn about its rich history.

At the February Shared Blessings meeting, the Good Idea Council shared their mission centered on philanthropy and volunteerism. They discussed their innovative “Change for Change” initiative, where jars of coins are collected to support local nonprofits. The students proudly highlighted the significant impact their donations have made in the community.

Additionally, the members of Shared Blessings and GIC collected men’s jeans for the Peoria Rescue Mission, demonstrating their commitment to addressing local needs. Looking ahead, they announced that the coins collected in March will be donated to Peoria Players, further extending their support to the arts in the community.

The council’s presentation underscored the importance of collective action and the positive change that can arise from small contributions. Their dedication to service inspires others to get involved and make a difference.

At its January meeting, The Good Idea Council welcomed Brent Bixby from the Peoria Area National Guard. Brent captivated the audience with his heartfelt enthusiasm for volunteering with Greater Peoria Honor Flight. His deep commitment to honoring veterans shone through as he shared personal stories and the powerful impact of the program. Through his words, it was clear how meaningful the experience was, not only for the veterans, but for the entire community. Lots of questions were asked from the GIC members, their parents and volunteers. GIC recognized service members who were in attendance and donated $52.38 in coins to support the flight’s cost of $800 per veteran. The Good Idea Council has been invited to speak at the February 19 Shared Blessings meeting at Midwest Food Bank. Huge thank you to the University United Methodist team for providing lunch and volunteers.

The December Good Idea Council meeting featured Holly Walker, owner of River Kitty Cafe. Students were full of questions regarding adoptions, available volunteer opportunities, and items needed to care for cats. During the October Good Idea Council meeting, members counted collected
Change for Change to donate to Foster Village. CEO Cheriz Kunkel spoke to the kids and provided a guided tour of Foster Village.
