Woodland Playground Solar Lighting & Education
Friday, April 10, 2026
3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Woodland Park Playground
DIAD Description
Join the JLP Sustainability Project for a hands-on Earth Month partnership! We are looking for two energetic volunteers to help us lead a group of 1st and 2nd-grade Girl Scouts in a community improvement project.
The goal of this initiative is to enhance the safety and usability of Woodland Park by installing solar-powered lighting around the playground perimeter. Volunteers will assist Sustainability Project committee members in facilitating a brief, interactive lesson on solar energy before helping the scouts with the physical installation.
**Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
*Engage & Educate: Assist in delivering a kid-friendly introduction to how solar energy works.
**Supervise Installation: Work alongside scouts to ensure solar lights are placed safely and effectively around the playground borders.
*Team Collaboration: Partner with JLP Sustainability Project members to manage small groups of children and keep the activity on schedule.
*Requirements
*Energy & Enthusiasm: Ability to keep 6- and 7-year-olds engaged and excited about environmental stewardship.
*Please arrive 10 minutes early (3:20 PM) for a quick briefing on the installation layout.
