Founded in 1932, the Sons of the American Legion's mission is to strengthen the four pillars of The American Legion. Squadron meetings held 7PM on the second Tuesday of each month at 50 Racquet Club Parkway. Squadron mailing address:

Squadron 555 was established in Spring of 2016 and received its charter on November 9, 2016 with fifteen charter members. Since then, we have been involved in myriad programs to support our military members, veterans, and communities - receiving numerous awards from the state- and national-level of the organization. Several members hold Detachment-level officer positions with one of our members receiving the honor of 2024 Detachment of Alabama Son of the Year. In 2022, Pelham Mayor Gary Waters, in recognition of the Squadron's efforts to serve veterans and the community, issued a proclamation declaring 9 November as SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION SQUADRON 555 DAY. Squadron 555 was named a national Four Pillars Squadron for 2024 & 2025. Squadron 555 is a part of the American Legion Matthew Blount Post 555 "Triple Nickel" family. Triple Nickel is a complete American Legion family with The American Legion, The Sons of the American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and The American Legion Riders. Happy Birthday, United States Navy!

Here are a couple photos of our Squadron 555 commander's grandfather's LSTs (74 & 210) from around the time they were helping liberate France from the Axis grip during WWII. Also pictured is LST 753, on which Mrs. Commander's (an AUX555 member) grandfather served in the Pacific. We're proud to be a part of the Legion Family to honor our families' service, serve veterans & military, build up youth, and strengthen our communities. The 2025-2026 Consolidated Report Summary shows $16,138,489 contributed to support Veterans, youth, and other programs as well as 8,152,287 volunteer hours worth $294,623,661 (but are actually priceless!). And that's just from the forms that were submitted by the reporting deadline, so the real numbers are MUCH higher!

Great job, Squadron 555, Sons of the American Legion Detachment of Alabama, and SAL members everywhere!

Real Taps for Real Heroes is working to ensure that Veterans are honored with a live rendition of Taps as they are laid to rest. The new "Adopt a Student Bugler" program allows the community to help volunteer buglers get involved through a scholarship that can cover training, horns, and other necessities.

We're so proud of what Squadron 555 member, Matt Burford, is doing to honor Veterans!
