We're excited to welcome Mary Katherine from SafeHouse for a special program just for tweens and teens!

Participants will learn about healthy relationships through an engaging discussion while getting creative by making their own beautiful geode slice craft to take home. Our tweens and teens absolutely loved the SafeHouse programs last summer, and we're sure this year's sessions will be just as fun and meaningful. We can't wait to see everyone for an afternoon of learning, creativity, and fun!

In our latest blog post, "Choosing Visibility over Silence," we explore the critical role that awareness and transparency play in breaking the cycles of domestic and sexual violence. For too long, the barrier of silence has allowed these issues to persist behind closed doors, creating a ripple effect that impacts our families, our workplaces, and our local economies.

When leadership and communities actively choose to make these conversations visible, we dismantle the isolation that holds survivors back. Providing resources, establishing solid community infrastructure, and fostering transparent dialogue are essential steps toward building safer, more resilient neighborhoods and professional environments.
We invite you to read the full article to understand how choosing visibility can strengthen our collective response and create lasting, systemic impact. 📋✨

Silence does not protect children from sexual assault. It often leaves them more vulnerable. SafeHouse chooses visibility over silence.

Domestic violence is not a rare occurrence. It is a widespread public health crisis impacting individuals across every community, workplace, and neighborhood. 📉🔍

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every single year. Behind that statistic are millions of individuals navigating trauma, isolation, and fear in spaces that should be safe.
Awareness is the foundation of change. By understanding the sheer scale of domestic violence, we can better understand the critical need for robust community infrastructure, comprehensive support systems, and trauma-informed care.🤝

No one should have to face this reality alone. SafeHouse is dedicated to providing survivors with the resources, emergency shelter, and professional guidance needed to rebuild their lives in safety and peace.
If you or someone you know needs support, our confidential resources are available around the clock.

SafeHouse Executive Director Janelle Sierra was honored to join advocates from across the country in Washington, D.C., for the The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV) Advocacy Days on June 2–3.

Alongside fellow leaders from Alabama's domestic violence programs and the Alabama Coalition against Domestic Violence (ACADV), Janelle met with members of Congress to discuss the importance of federal funding for survivor services.

This year's conversations were especially timely, as advocates called for the immediate release of delayed funding opportunities and appropriated funds that sustain programs like SafeHouse. Delays can have real impacts on services and support available to survivors across our communities.

Janelle was joined by Derek Osborn (Turning Point Alabama), Jessica Atchley (The Willow Path), Krychelle Smith (2nd Chance, Inc.), Latasha Simms (ACADV), and Erica Sanders (ACADV).
