💚 Welcome Our Newest Board Member – Jane Franks! 💚
We are honored to welcome Jane Franks to the Board of Directors of The Resting Place of Pelham.
Jane was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and has called the Birmingham area home since 1993. She attended Ramsay High School and graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in Social Work. Since 1957, Jane has been a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church but recently transferred her membership to Shades Crest Baptist Church.
Professionally, Jane spent most of her career in Insurance, but she says one of the most meaningful chapters of her life was serving hospice patients and their families for two years—a role that deepened her compassion for those walking through difficult seasons.
Jane has dedicated decades to serving others. She has volunteered with hospice since the 1980s, served as a volunteer at Children's of Alabama for 13 years in numerous departments, and has faithfully served with King's Home for nearly six years. There, she has helped remodel and furnish three homes for youth, spent holidays investing in their lives, and has served on the King's Home Board of Directors for the past five years.
In Jane's own words...
"If you don't walk the walk, you can't talk the talk. It can happen to anyone.
I married my college sweetheart, who became extremely mentally and physically abusive. Without going into the details, alcohol destroyed our marriage and left us financially devastated.
I became a single mom in 1993 and worked three jobs just to keep my daughter in college and maintain a home for us. The strain was overwhelming, and without determination and God's hand guiding me, I don't know how I would have made it. Even with supportive parents, the struggle was very real.
Although I was never homeless, I experienced firsthand how quickly life can change and how difficult circumstances can become. That journey taught me to never judge someone by where they are today because you never know what they are carrying.
I hope I can bring empathy, wisdom, and the lessons I've learned to The Resting Place. I want every woman who walks through our doors to know she is seen, valued, and not alone."
Jane's heart for serving others, her unwavering faith, and her life experiences make her an incredible addition to our board. We are grateful that God has led her to The Resting Place of Pelham, and we look forward to the compassion, wisdom, and leadership she will bring to our mission of serving women in need throughout Shelby County.
Please join us in giving Jane a warm welcome! 💚
