Fall Fun: Ride with a Ranger, Richland, WA

Are you looking to get out and enjoy the crisp fall weather? Register today for Ride with a Ranger Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (PDT)! Ride with a Ranger is a 17-mile round trip bike ride along the along the Sacagawea Heritage Trail, on city streets through the Richland Parkway, and then continuing along the river to the REACH Museum. We will ride from the Leslie Groves Park to the REACH Museum where participants will have the opportunity to enjoy hands-on activities, attend programs about the Manhattan Project and local plants and animals, and explore indoor museum exhibits. The group will then bike back to Leslie Groves Park with the rangers or on their own.

This event is FREE for registered participants. Event registration will close on October 15 at 6:00 pm. Registration is required. Bike Tri-Cities paid for museum admission for registrants. For more information and to register, visit https://www.biketricities.org/event-6831769

Come out to Hanford Reach National Monument on Saturday for the first ever Hanford History Hike offered by Manhattan Project National Historical Park and Hanford Reach National Monument.

Manhattan to Monument - A Hanford History Hike!

The National Park Service and Fish & wildlife Service are hosting a free hike on Saturday, September 19.

Take a step back in time with us on the Hanford Reach National Monument. The park and refuge staff are leading a hike focusing on the history of the Manhattan Project and we will also discuss the shrub-steppe ecology, some of the geology you'll be passing through, and any other topic you'd like to know more about on your Monument. This guided walk highlights historic viewpoints, the story of the Missoula Floods, and how today’s stewardship protects the national treasures found near the Tri-Cities.

The hike will follow the old Ringold River Road, so while there is elevation gain, the path is easy. If you stay with us for the entire trip (6 miles), plan on 3 hours, but the hike is designed that you can return at any point.

Meet us at the "locked gate" on Ringold River Road across from the historic, original Hanford High School at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The road in is dirt, but easily passable by passenger car. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, water, and curiosity. There aren't any restrooms out there, so plan accordingly. If you have any questions, or need directions, don't hesitate to call (509) 546-8333.

"The American Lake Trail is a scenic backpacking trip that follows a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail through forests, wildflower meadows, alpine lakes, and open ridges with spectacular views of Nelson Ridge and Mount Rainier. Beginning at Chinook Pass, the trail climbs steadily before reaching beautiful American Lake.

Late August to early September is one of the best times to visit, as recommended by experienced hikers and Washington Trails Association trip reports. During this time, mosquitoes are typically much less active, and huckleberries and blueberries are often at their peak."
