Kristin Wasemiller-Knutson has spent a lifetime in the dressage arena. Her 18-year-old Grand Prix partner, Vashti, has just about seen it all, too. Ready for a new challenge, Wasemiller-Knutson set her sights on the Western Dressage Association of America World Championship Show in Oklahoma in September.

“I felt like she had done her job for me—gone as far as she could really go, as high up as she could go, competition-wise in that heavy show environment and the training schedule,” she said. “I really didn't want to push her that hard anymore.”

Stepping away from the demands of Grand Prix competition didn't mean the pair was done learning. Western dressage brought a new set of challenges, from unfamiliar tack to a different vocabulary of cues.

The Dressage Foundation was pleased to present the Lynn Palm Future Star Awards at the Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) World Championship Show. These $500 awards recognize the highest-scoring junior rider, with a score of 65 percent or higher, in the Introductory, Basic, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 divisions.

The goal of the Lynn Palm Future Star Awards is to support promising youth riders as they continue their Western Dressage training and education.

The awards are presented through TDF’s Western Dressage Fund, which was established by Lynn Palm in 2019 to give back to the sport she loves. The Western Dressage Fund also provides grants to amateur, youth, and professional riders who need financial support for training, as well as to groups hosting Western Dressage educational events.

We’re proud to celebrate TWHBEA member Tami Steinbrecher and her horse THE WICKED WOLF, also known as "Timber", who has been selected to appear on the cover of the 2027 Western Dressage Level 3 Test Calling Book published by Dressage Illustrated!

The new Western Dressage tests will be released December 1 and will remain in place for the next 4–5 years. Out of 9–10 horses representing a variety of breeds from across the country selected to appear on the covers of the new test calling books, "Timber" stands out in a very special way as he is the first and only Tennessee Walking Horse ever featured on one of these covers!

Each book also includes a short biography highlighting the featured horse’s breed and accomplishments. That means for the next 4–5 years, riders and enthusiasts purchasing the Level 3 test calling book will see a Tennessee Walking Horse proudly represented on the cover!

We’re thrilled to see our breed recognized and represented in the world of Western Dressage.
