Northside Elementary School 5th graders had an exciting couple of days exploring the wonders of the Gulf! During their field trip, students learned about the amazing marine animals that call the Gulf home, discussed the challenges sea turtles face, and explored the importance of water quality in protecting our oceans.

💧Hands-on learning, new discoveries, and a deeper appreciation for our marine environment made for a fantastic day! 💙

Maude Saunders Elementary students explored the coastal dune lake at Grayton Beach State Park, tested the water quality, searched for shoreline organisms along the Gulf, and learned how challenging it is to be a sea turtle.

Hands-on experiences are incredibly important in building an appreciation for our local unique ecosystems and marine life. Thank you Walton County for supporting these educational opportunities!

A. Gary Walsingham Academy 3rd graders had a great time learning about the marine life found in our local seagrass. They got a closer look under the microscopes at snails, hermit crabs, shrimp and more. They tested the water quality in the bay and found out why collecting data is important. These young explorers also practiced the skill of casting in a game of Backyard Bass.

Real question. What would you do with $500? 👇

Six refractometers so lab groups stop fighting over one.
A day of kayak rentals.
Bus money for the field trip your admin keeps saying "maybe" to.

Put yours in the comments. Then go turn it into a mini grant application. You've got until December 12.

The Annual FMSEA conference is going to be in our region April 2027 🙌🏼 This will be a great opportunity to get involved, renew your membership or sign up for the first time. https://sites.google.com/fmsea.org/welcome/?pli=1&authuser=0

Conferences cost money. Teachers know exactly how much. 🧾

FMSEA's Teacher Scholarship helps members cover registration, travel, or lodging for professional development. That includes our own conference, FMSEA 27, April 22-25, 2027.

It's paid for by a trust fund the FMSEA board started back in 1993, plus whatever you all bid on at the conference silent auction.

The one string attached: afterward you write it up for the FMSEA Journal or present at the conference. Which is kind of the fun part.

Applications November 1st!
Members only, so if your membership lapsed, this is your sign.

Follow along so you catch the opening. 🌊
