If you are caring for someone with arthritis, you can let them try a Paraffin Wax Bath. ✋♨️

The heat from the wax can loosen the joints and reduce joint stiffness.

Just make sure that the wax is not too hot before use. 🌡️

There isn’t one perfect temperature for heat therapy, so choose what feels comfortable.

A good guideline is to keep your shower between 92 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit (33.3 to 37.7 degrees Celsius).

If an older adult needs to use their hands to push themselves up from a chair, it may be more than just a habit.

It can be a sign of leg weakness.

And leg weakness is one of the leading reasons older adults experience falls.

Aging, limited physical activity, poor nutrition, and conditions like Sarcopenia can all contribute to weakened legs.

One of the best ways to strengthen our leg muscles is through exercises targeting the different parts of the leg.

🦵 Heel Raises - supports the calves

🦵 Step-Ups - engages the hamstrings and glutes,

🦵 Bridges - strengthens the glutes, quads, and hamstrings

As always, it is best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise routine, especially to ensure it is safe and appropriate for individual needs.

Dehydration is a common cause of hospitalization among those 65 and over.

Several factors make older adults more vulnerable to dehydration including:

💧 Their bodies contain less water than when they were younger

💧 Their sense of thirst naturally weakens over time

💧 Declining kidney function can lead to more frequent urination and greater fluid loss

💧 Mobility challenges can make it harder to access fluids regularly

💧 Certain medications for chronic conditions

One practical strategy for caregivers to keep their care recipient hydrated is to offer hydrating foods as part of their care recipient's regular diet.

Are you worried about your loved one's sudden and unintentional weight loss?

It could be a sign of malnutrition.

Malnutrition is typically diagnosed when someone unintentionally loses 5 to 10 percent of their body weight over three to six months, or when their BMI drops to 18.5 or below.

Asking them to step on a scale is the most obvious first step. But that is not always easy to do, and that is okay.

There are other signs worth watching for.

💍 Notice if a ring keeps sliding off their finger.

👕 Check if their clothes seem looser than usual, or if they are cinching their waistband tighter than before.

😬 Has their jawline grown sharper?

😊 Are their cheekbones more prominent?

👀 Do their eyes look a little more sunken than you remember?

You are seriously ill and unable to speak. The doctors turn to those around you and ask what you would want.

Would they know? 🤔

More importantly, would the care you receive truly reflect who you are, what you value, and what you want?

This is exactly what Advance Care Planning is designed to protect.

It is your opportunity, right now while you are healthy, to think through what matters most to you and put it into words.

So that if that moment ever comes, the answer is already there in your own voice.

One question consider is where would you want to be at the end of your life.

At home? Close to nature? In a place of comfort and familiarity?

You can have that wish honored, and Advance Care Planning is how you make it happen.

Falls can happen during simple daily tasks such as reaching for something on a high shelf or picking up an item from the floor.

For older adults, a simple tool like a reach stick or grabber can reduce the need to bend, stretch, or climb, helping prevent injuries before they happen.

We highlighted the most popular reach sticks on Amazon with strong reviews and high ratings.

If you or someone you care for wants to maintain independence while reducing fall risk, this guide may help.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among adults aged 65 and older. One trigger is reaching for something out of arm's length. When we stretch upward for a high shelf, our center of gravity shifts. Our balance becomes unstable, especially if we are standing on our toes, leaning forward, or twistin...

Are you taking care of a loved one with low bone density or osteoporosis?

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools you have. 💪

A combination of three types of exercise works best for building strong bones, reducing fracture risk, and preventing falls

🏓 Weight-Bearing Movement

These exercises put stress on your bones in a good way. When bones experience stress, they respond by becoming stronger over time. Think brisk walking, jogging, dancing, climbing stairs, or racket sports like pickleball and tennis.

➰ Resistance Training

Strengthening muscles through weights, resistance bands, or even your own body weight (pushups, pullups) add resistance to movement, making muscles and bones work harder and stronger.

🤸 Balance Training

Tai chi, lunges, step-ups, single-leg standing, and walking on uneven surfaces can reduce fall risk.

Before starting any new exercise program, always consult their healthcare provider first. They can help identify which types of physical activity are safest for them and most beneficial for their bone health. 💡

It's a simple question with a complicated answer.

After years of putting someone else's needs first, what actually happens when that chapter closes?

We want to hear from those of you who have been through it.

Did life return to normal? Did you have to build a completely new one? And what do you know now that you wish you had known then? 💭
