🚨 MISSION SUCCESS: LIFE SAVED 🚨

On Friday, Oxford EMS Special Operations had the privilege of being part of a mission that ended with the best possible outcome: a missing person was found alive and reunited with his family after nearly 48 hours.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Oxford EMS Special Operations along with our partners from Beacon Falls PD were requested by the New Haven Police Department to assist in the search for an autistic adult who had been missing since Wednesday evening.

Over the course of the operation, multiple K9 teams, drone assets from Oxford EMS and NHPD, MedOps 1 serving as the command center, and numerous dedicated personnel worked together to locate the missing individual.

After 5 hours of searching, our drone team was deployed over an area of interest identified by our K9 Teams. While conducting aerial operations, a drone spotter identified an anomaly within a dense, marshy area covered by heavy vegetation. Using both visual and thermal imaging, the team recognized that the object could potentially be a person.

Coordinates were relayed to a nearby K9 team, who responded to investigate.

They found the missing individual...unresponsive, but alive.

Oxford EMS personnel immediately initiated life-saving care. It is believed he had been exposed to the elements since Wednesday evening, surviving severe thunderstorms, extreme heat, and days without food or water.

Providers on scene felt that without timely intervention, his condition could have become fatal within hours.

This rescue represents an incredible success for every agency involved. The teamwork between law enforcement, K9 teams, drone operators, and EMS professionals directly resulted in saving a life.

It also marks a milestone for Oxford EMS: our first successful live find involving the combined efforts of our Drone and K9 Search & Rescue teams.

These specialized programs may not be what people traditionally think of when they think of EMS, but our mission has always been simple: save lives.

During this time, our in town EMS crews responded to 7 medical emergencies as well!

Because of the dedication, training, and professionalism of everyone involved, a man was given a second chance, and a family was reunited with their loved one.

Thank you to every agency, volunteer, K9 and responder who played a role in this successful outcome.

The officers and members of Oxford EMS express our deepest condolences to the members of Quaker Farms following the unexpected loss of one of your own.

Our thoughts are with the McKeon family, friends, and fellow members during this difficult time.

It is with our profound sadness to announce the passing of one of our own. Zak McKeon passed away this morning. Zak was a new addition to the QF family and was just voted in as a probationary member in May. He was extremely excited and very active in this short time with us. He was willing to learn and was always willing to jump into any task you asked of him. He was moving to be an incredible asset to the Quaker Farms Fire Co and the Oxford Fire Dept as a whole. We will miss him dearly. Forever in our hearts and prayers Zak.

Please see below for a GoFundMe page his family has setup for their unexpected expenses.

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Oxford EMS was proud to participate in today’s Memorial Day parade as we joined our community in remembering those who gave everything for our freedom. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As EMS Week comes to a close, I want to personally thank each and every member of Oxford EMS for your continued dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community.

Our volunteer membership gives countless hours away from family, work, and personal time to answer calls for help whenever they come in. Whether responding in the middle of the night, standing by at community events, training to improve skills, or supporting one another behind the scenes, your service does not go unnoticed.

This week serves as a reminder of the important role Oxfords EMS providers play every day, but the truth is that your efforts deserve recognition year-round. The compassion, teamwork, and reliability shown by our members are what make this organization strong and allow us to provide the level of care our community depends on.

I am proud to serve alongside such a dedicated group of volunteers. Thank you for everything you do, not just during EMS Week, but every single day.

And a special thanks to all of those who helped honor our team this week.

Congratulations to Training Director Keri McDermott and Oxford EMS member Breanna Toomey on being recognized by UConn Health Waterbury Hospital this past Wednesday for their outstanding contributions to EMS. Keri was presented with EMS Educator of the Year, and Breanna was honored as Tele-Communicator of the Year. These awards reflect the dedication, hard work, and impact they continue to make within the EMS community. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and all that they do. Congratulations to you both!

Oxford EMS was awarded a Unit Citation for the team’s response to a bus accident in a neighboring town. This recognition reflects the professionalism, teamwork, and commitment demonstrated by our members in providing care and support when neighboring communities need assistance. We are proud of the dedication shown by everyone involved.

We’re proud to share that our community has once again been re-designated as a HeartSafe Community! ❤️

The HeartSafe program recognizes communities that are committed to improving cardiac emergency preparedness and outcomes through CPR education, public access to AEDs, and coordinated emergency response efforts. Every minute matters during a cardiac emergency, and programs like this help save lives.

If your business, organization, or group is interested in CPR training or would like information about placing an AED at your location, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We’d be happy to help you become part of a safer, more prepared community.

Together, we can make a difference when it matters most!

Thank you to the First Selectman of Oxford for his continued support and the Connecticut Department of Public Health for championing this program.

We are proud that the Town of Oxford is recognized as a Heart Safe Community. ❤️

A special thank you to our Director of EMS Seth Poston and his team for their hard work, training, and commitment to keeping our community safe every day. Your service and dedication is truly appreciated!
