Today we honor Brother Jimm Pechinski, who as of 7 AM today is officially retired from the Oswego Fire Protection District. Jimmy has been a member of Oswego Fire for 22 years with his most recent assignment being station 4 on Black Shift.

Jimmy not only served on the street, but spent countless hours as part of the departments Maintenance Division on his days off shift. He helped build the program to what it is today, taking the shop from doing mostly routine maintenance to what is today with repairs as elaborate as motor overhauls.

Jimmy proudly represented Local 4773 throughout the United States. He attended numerous firefighter Line Of Duty Death funerals around the country, paying his respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. He also responded, with Travis Martinez, as part of a MABAS deployment to Louisiana during the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav and Ike in 2008.

Enjoy your well earned retirement!

Your Oswego Fire Protection District crews had a busy morning right from the start. Here, Engine 4 and Tender 4 took a moment for a picture after picking up from a mutual aid structure fire with Plainfield Local 4560.

We’re baacckkk and we brought friends! The Oswego Police Department is partnering up with the Oswego Fire Protection District to create Smoke & Sirens Racing for the Five-O Racing at Grundy County Speedway on August 1, 2026.

Five-O Racing is a community-driven race that brings together first responder crews from across the state to compete in modified police cars while raising funds for Special Olympics Illinois. The starting position of the race is based off how much money the team has raised.

Grant Towing and Collision Connection Auto Body donated a car for us to transform into a race car. Members of both departments will be working on the car to make sure it meets the racing requirements. Lieutenant Chet Hartley of OFPD will be our driver with Officer Cherese Spears as the team manager. We are looking for business sponsors. If you are a business that is interested in sponsoring us, please contact Officer Spears at [email protected] for more information.

We also are accepting donations to support the team, visit https://support.soill.org/team/829766 to make a straight donation and to learn more about the Five-O Racing.
