The Teachers' Closet, Inc.

The Teachers' Closet, Inc. The Teachers' Closet provides teachers with free teaching supplies. The Teachers' Closet partners with other organizations in order to buy those supplies.

Our goal is to reach students needing assistance through their teachers and to enrich the school experience for all children. The Teachers' Closet was founded to help teachers obtain supplies for themselves and their students to be used within our community's classrooms. With budget cuts and families struggling to get by, less and less is provided for in our classrooms. Many teachers spend their

own money for the supplies their students need to be successful within their classrooms. We also receive monetary donations from private citizens. Donations of goods are also accepted. We have everything from crayons to deodorant to paper to back packs to warm winter hats and mittens to name just a few things. We also fill special requests that teachers might have such as electric pencil sharpeners, student planners, bean bag chairs, etc. We are open two evenings a week and one Saturday a month. The Teachers' Closet is totally run by volunteers and all donated money goes directly to helping teachers and students.

One of the things that The Teachers’ Closet does, is grant special requests. Sometimes teachers are looking for things we don’t stock or happen to have at TTC. Teachers can request those items by completing a Special Request form. A committee reviews the requests, determines if it fits their criteria, and then acquires the item or items. TTC has a Special Request fund which is used for this purpose. One of our recent granted requests was buying the foam material for the music department at Vel Phillips Middle School. Pictured are some of the finished puppets. Other examples of requests granted were sound blocking headphones for autistic kids, electric pencil sharpeners, special calculators, and more. Please consider a donation to our Special Request fund.

Today was our last day with our Oshkosh North High School “workers”. Most will be graduating in six days. It was a fun year working with and getting to know these students! We celebrated with a pizza party.

On May 12th, The Teachers' Closet was invited to participate in a Generosity Event sponsored by Apex Financial - Thrivent. Clients of Apex met at The Bar in Oshkosh and supported two organizations, ours and 5 Stones/Fox Valley. We received all the supplies in the photo from the clients! This is very helpful this time of year when supplies are getting lower. Pictured are the wonderful staff of Apex Financial that hosted the event. It is always wonderful to hear from our enrolled teachers to find out how they use items from TTC. This note arrived from Kristen Yost Whitney. "Hi! I am a Science teacher at Omro High School and I have visited The Teachers’ Closet several times. I want to share with you one of the ways that I use the supplies that I picked up at TTC. These are paper roller coasters constructed by my 9th grade Physics Fundamentals students. They used tape, cardstock and cardboard tubes to make their projects and stopwatches and calculators for timing their marble run and performing energy calculations! Thank you so much for sharing time and materials with educators. We definitely put them to good use. I will definitely be back in the fall to stock up."

Congratulations to Dr. Phong Nguyen!
