Winnebago Area Literacy Council

Winnebago Area Literacy Council We strengthen our diverse community by developing and delivering free, learner-centered literacy programs for adults and their families.

Our page demonstrates how we provide our diverse learners with a wide variety of literacy programs. We share learner accomplishments and stories to spread awareness about diversity, how low literacy skills perpetuate the cycle of poverty, and how courageous our learners are. We display pictures and tell uplifting stories about passionate volunteers supported by professional staff guidance and agen

cy resources. We are innovative, creative, and compassionate individuals committed to strengthen our community by offering free literacy programs to adults and their families.

For those who haven't heard about the amazing news about the Planet Perk Community Living Room😄

COMMUNITY LIVING ROOM
Beginnig Monday, June 15h through July 27th
From 3:00 pm to 8:00pm.

We are initiating a pilot program for CLR at Planet Perk. We are hoping to grow the program here in Oshkosh to go beyond this pilot program.

The Community Living Room is a non-clinical, person-centered environment for people seeking social connection and emotional support.

The primary objective of the Community Living Room is to utilize the concept of connection as a framework for prevention in a no-cost, community-based supportive space.

The outcome of the Community Living Room is connection. The Community Living Room is grounded in the present, offering a healing space for people to be seen, heard, and valued just as they are.

One of the founding values of Planet Perk has been the belief that loniliness is one of the most destructive forces in our world. It only made sense to partner with CLR to provide our cafe spaces in a more purposeful manner. This will all be a part of our effort to be an invaluable "third space" for the community. Over the coming weeks, we will share more information about the program and we hope to serve as many people as possible.

People visiting us can also utilize Ken's Closet and our Pay-It-Forward programs.

You can learn more about CLR using this link: https://www.communitylivingroom.org/what-is-clr

This past Wednesday, our afternoon Everyday English learners celebrated the last class of the quarter with a visit to the Menominee Park Zoo🐻🌳

We enjoyed spending time together outside the classroom, taking advantage of the beautiful weather, and practicing English in a new setting. Learners loved seeing the different animals, and we’ve shared some of our favorite moments below.

We’re looking forward to more field trip opportunities in the future. A big thank‑you to all of our staff and instructors who make these experiences possible!

📖 Earlier today, The Oshkosh Experience class strolled over to the Oshkosh Public Library! Our group had both veteran and first time library goers but everyone enjoyed learning about all of the different things the library has to offer. A big thank you to OPL for hosting us and to Sandy for the amazing tour!

We are so grateful for the opportunity to extend the learning beyond the classroom. These experiences were made possible by a grant from the Ladies Benevolent Society: Advocates for Older Adults Fund within the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation
