The Scottish Highlands
team are in Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve, helping the National Trust for Scotland with a their ongoing conservation projects. After an orientation hike through restored forests filled with birdsong and lush moorlands dotted with colorful spring wildflowers, we helped repair a rough, but important track by fitting potholes with a jigsaw puzzle of rocks, creating much easier passage. We collected, moved, and fitted about 3/4 ton of rock today!

Resplendent Quetzels, hummingbirds, golden-browed chlorophonia, and more! The Costa Rica volunteer team helped preserve these beautiful birds by creating Resplendent Quetzel artificial nests and planted wild avocado trees to reforest the habitat and provide a natural food source for the birds.

What an amazing trip filled with various volunteer contributions, beautiful wildlife, and a welcoming culture from each person we met. Until the next trip!

Construction complete ✅ the Pacuare Reserve volunteer team built a partition for the kitchen staff and constructed 3 tables for the comedor!

We celebrated our efforts by being welcomed into a local home to make a homemade meal together. The food was influenced by Caribbean flavors and was a special way to end the Pacuare Reserve activities!

We have begun helping with coral reef restoration by performing underwater surveys of coral nurseries as part of our Galapagos Trip! Coral can be damaged by a number of phenomena, including sunscreen - this is your reminder to always choose reef safe sunscreens! We looked for living, dead, bleached, or impacted by algae. Everyone enjoyed the survey and were able to engage with this marvelous ecosystem in a unique way.

We have continued our turtle surveys on Isabela, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador! Over the past few days we have surveyed several sites, including Tintoreras, Co**ha Negra, and Los Tuneles. Travelers use underwater cameras to photograph turtles and then facial recognition software is utilized to identify the individual turtles for research purposes. The group also hiked to the Sulfur Mines to learn more about the local geology.

The Pacuare Reserve volunteer team enhanced the survey data for Capuchin Monkeys this morning, observing their activity in the wild! 🐒

After the observation, we enhanced the dining features and turtle hatchery at the reserve. After a short break, we monitored the Agami Heron bird nesting sanctuary from afar, careful to respect their private space. Our scope captured some amazing pictures!

Fingers crossed we see a Leatherback Sea Turtle laying eggs on the beach during our night patrol 🐢

Yesterday was a great day in the Galapagos. The group geared up and started at the beach. Then, we conducted a sea turtle survey out at Kicker Rock. The conditions were beautiful and we were fortunate to see 5 sharks and 20 green sea turtles. The group was able to navigate the cut through the crack. After a rewarding day, the group enjoyed dinner together and packed up to travel today. We are on our way to Isabela Island!
