What a wonderful evening at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden in Fayetteville where we celebrated more than 40 Service Excellence Award recipients at our North Carolina affiliate, Employment Source!

Honorees included employees serving military members through contracts at Fort Bragg, Pope Army Airfield, and at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, as well as employees working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs U.S. EPA Southeast Region IRS and those hired by our Employer Partners across North Carolina.

The evening also recognized Ben Stout Construction as Employment Source’s 2026 Community Partner of the Year and former board member Dr. Brandt Wood for his years of service.

Assisting Employment Source Senior Executive Director Jason Amarose with presenting the awards were ServiceSource Board Member Weyher Dawson, ServiceSource President and CEO Ken Crum, and ServiceSource Chief Program Officer Andy Rind. Special thanks to our sponsor, Imperial Dade for their support.

Individuals participating in the Riverfront Community Center Day Program at our Delaware affiliate, Opportunity Center, Inc., (OCI) took advantage of the beautiful weather recently and wrapped up the summer season with a trip to Rehoboth Beach. With temperatures being a little bit cool, some participants ventured into the water, while others preferred to walk along the boardwalk and enjoy the scenery and relaxing atmosphere. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity for participants to socialize, explore the community, and enjoy a fun day at the beach!

During the 2026 General Assembly session, House Bill 996 (HB 996) was passed to help improve the transition from high school to adult services and opportunities for students with disabilities. The legislation directs the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), the Virginia Department of Education, and other partners to develop a plan for clearer transition guidance, better information and resources, stronger connections with Community Services Boards, and an online resource to help students and families understand their options after high school.

The goal is to help more students with disabilities successfully move into postsecondary education, training, employment, day programs, independent living, and life-skills programs.

We are asking families, educators, Community Services Board staff and service providers to complete a brief survey. Your feedback will help us understand what information is hard to find, where barriers exist and what resources or supports would make the transition process easier.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share it with others who may want to provide input. Your experience can help shape better transition information and supports for Virginia’s students and families.

Another amazing ServiceSource Family and Friends Fall Picnic is in the books!

More than 300 individuals with significant disabilities, family members, caregivers, and community members came together at the Thieberger residence in Lorton, Virginia, for our 16th annual fall picnic.

The day was filled with music, dancing, games, raffles, great food, and plenty of fun. Guests enjoyed visits from the Washington Commanders Command Force, music from Big Mo Sounds, and photos with NOVA Selfies Photo Booth. Support from MISSION BBQ, Five Guys, Jake's Ice Cream, Nothing But Treats, Nalls Produce, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Station 20, and Scouting America Troop 1131 also helped make the day possible.

Thank you to the amazing Family and Friends volunteers who put in many hours to make this year’s event a success, and special thanks to Paul and Pam Thieberger, who host this community gathering each year.

Congratulations to all of the honorees recognized at the 34th Annual Opportunity Center, Inc. (OCI) Service Excellence Awards!

This year's event celebrated 17 individuals with disabilities whose accomplishments are making a positive impact every day through OCI's AbilityOne contracts with federal and state agencies and jobs with community partners across Delaware.

We were also joined by SourceAmerica to recognize Senator Chris C***s as an AbilityOne Champion for his continued support of the AbilityOne Program and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, while longtime board member Joanne Finnigan was honored for her years of leadership and service as she retires from the board.

The event also recognized The Westin Wilmington as OCI's 2026 Community Partner of the Year.

👏 Congratulations to the newest Restaurant Ready graduates from the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy!

While supporting food service operations at the FBI Academy through the AbilityOne Program, these team members recently completed the Restaurant Ready training program, building skills to support their professional growth and future career opportunities.

We're proud to celebrate their achievements and all the hard work that made it possible.

Restaurant Ready is offered through a partnership between ServiceSource's Employee Development Program, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, and the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association.

We wrapped up the first week of our 2026 Service Excellence Award events in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where we celebrated 12 outstanding employees working on our contact at U.S. Army Fort Carson. The awards recognize the employees’ dedication and commitment to excellence, as well as personal and community achievements.

ServiceSource President and CEO Ken Crum, Chief Operating Officer Don Pincus, Chief Program Officer Andy Rind, and Division Manager Carlos Martinez were on hand to present awards and congratulate the winners.

Led by ServiceSource Division Manager Carlos Martinez, the team delivers superior service to the men and women serving our country at Fort Carson. We are especially proud of their work supporting the new Stack House Bistro, the Army’s second campus-style dining venue. Congratulations to all of the award winners!
