rld face obstacles solely because of their gender. They disproportionately suffer from poverty and discrimination. It’s for this reason that Soroptimist, an organization of and by women, chooses to focus on the special challenges facing women and girls. Soroptimists in Soroptimist International of The Sierras local club are residents of the Oakhurst Area which includes Ahwahnee, Bass Lake, Coarsegold, Oakhurst and North Fork. Oakhurst is located at the South Gates of Yosemite National Park in Central California.

We had our last business meeting of the club year and newly elected President Raylene Trent installed the rest of the 2026/2027 Board, it was like the Soroptimist version of New Year's Eve! 🌟 2nd Term President Bailey Whitcanack officially passed the President's pin to Raylene. Bailey's face in the last picture displays how she felt about the gift the board got to thank her for her past two years of dedication to this club and service to this community. CONGRATULATIONS to our new Officers President-Elect Barbara Irion, Treasurer Korie Miller, Treasurer-Elect Sarah Persson, One Year Director Dari Medina, & One Year Delegate Kriszti Meszaros. CHICKS ROCK! 🤘🏻 We have officially installed the 2026/2027 Board of Soroptimist International of The Sierras, in a celebration of female empowerment through song. We honored goddesses of rock like Aretha Franklin and Joan Jett, and belted out ballads like "You Don't Own Me", "I Will Survive", and of course, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"! Cheers to President Raylene Trent, who was crowned as our Queen of Rock'n'Roll 🥂👑🎶 and Congratulations to our awesome officers: Recording Secretary Maria Manning-Chapman, Corresponding Secretary Taylor Sliffe, Two Year Director Bailey Whitcanack, Two Year Delegate Jennifer Rogers, Alternate Delegate Cheryce Chartier. ROCK ON!!! 🌟🩵 (And don't worry about Earl, he simply had to die.)

🌟 REALIZE YOUR DREAM! 🌟
Over 800 Soroptimist clubs participate in the Live Your Dream education award program, which is specifically for a woman who is the head of her household. This grant is for a very particular subset of female students, and we wanted to invest in even more women (preferably every woman)! The Realize Your Dream award is unique to our local club. The creation of this award was inspired by all the independent young women who are putting themselves through college; navigating work, family, and social life, while pursuing their education (although we designed this grant so that any woman in school who doesn't qualify for the Live Your Dream award can apply). We are exceedingly proud to announce that our very first REALIZE YOUR DREAM AWARD recipient, Paige, who received our grant when she was attending community college and working towards her associate's degree, has now GRADUATED with her Bachelor's degree from Fresno State University. 👩🏻‍🎓 This is the kind of success story that we love to celebrate!

WE DON'T DO THIS BECAUSE IT'S EASY, WE DO IT BECAUSE IT MATTERS. 🩵 Soroptimist International of The Sierras was recognized at our conference, where we celebrated our 50th year as the Sierra Pacific Region, with 28 other clubs, and over 300 members! We received 2 bronze medals, for Membership (increase & retention) and for Public Awareness. On the first night, each club commemorated the year in which they were charted by dressing in that decade's fashion. Can you tell that we put down our roots in 1968?! 🤩 The second day was full of emotion and information, as our Live Your Dream recipient Elisabeth received a secondary grant at the regional level, and we attended workshops on empowering women. That night was full of glamor, and we enjoyed the incredible Voices United Chorus! We installed the new regional board for this biennium, and celebrated first time conference attendees like Dari and Jennifer! Sunday morning was the Celebration of Life. We honored the lives of departed Soroptimists throughout our region, including our club's beloved charter member Ann Topham. 🌷 Our regional conferences are always full of learning, bonding, and a strong sense of sisterhood. Shine on, Sparkle Stars! ✨️🌟✨️
