ORKC October Meeting Guest Presentation
Please join us at our October ORKC meeting Thursday Oct 1 at 7pm! We are looking forward to a presentation by certified canine fitness trainer Tracy Harp. Tracy will describe her path to becoming a trainer, why fitness is so important for our canine athletes and companions, and demonstrate a warm up exercise with her dog.
Tracy Harp CCFT
Dogs have always been a huge part of my life, and I’ve always loved being active and involved in their training. I competed in AKC agility and disc dog with my dog Casey and was working towards her excellent/master titles when she was diagnosed with an iliopsoas strain. Going through that experience with Casey opened my eyes to how important strength, conditioning, body awareness, and proper fitness training are for our dogs.
That experience sparked a passion in me to learn more about canine fitness and how we can help our dogs become stronger, healthier and better prepared for the activities they love. It ultimately led me to become a certified canine fitness trainer (CCFT) which I attained through the University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville TN.
I'm also fortunate to teach along side Naoko Blue and Linda Bayless in the Agility Foundation Class. I help students
Learn how to incorporate proper warm-ups, cool-downs, fitness training and mental games into their dogs training to develop the physical and mental tools they need to enjoy an active life.
My goal is to make fitness fun, purposeful, and something that both dogs and their people enjoy doing together. Whether a dog is competing in agility, disc, dock diving, flyball, rally or simply wants to stay active. I believe the right fitness foundation can help them feel stronger, move better, and enjoy what they love for years to come!
