First Step Back Home

First Step Back Home Caring for the homeless and working poor.in St. Charles County, MO and surrounding areas. Charles County.

Our History

In 2000, Paul and Lana established a ministry to serve over-the-road truckers in Foristell, MO at the TA Truck Stop on Highway 70. This Trucker Church Ministry still exists today, and has now provided Christian services to more than 4,700 truckers. During Paul’s early involvement with the Trucker Church Ministry, he became aware of the lack of resources and gaps in service by local so

cial service providers for the homeless in St. In the winter of 2005 he began researching the homeless problem, became involved with the St. Charles County Continuum of Care group, and started to consider what he could personally do to meet the needs of homeless who were coming to him for help during Trucker Church services. In March 2005, Paul founded the First Step Back Home (FSBH) Homeless Ministry, spawned by a $1,000 gift from a local business that helped cover outlays he had been personally making to assist the homeless. FSBH was established as a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity in February, 2007. In 2009, Paul retired from his home repair business of 18 years to focus all of his attention on what he considered to be a serious local homeless problem. By the grace of God and the glory of the Gospel, FSBH has assisted more than 5,000 homeless in the local area to date in getting lodging, food, clothing, jobs, and transportation, in their quest to become self-supporting. FSBH now assists many of the homeless, usually referred by the Salvation Army, Crider Health Center and other social service agencies, churches, hospitals, police departments, individuals, local businesses and government.

So excited to share this gift of love provided by our Trucker Church friends from Power of God Trucking Ministry and created by David Wolkow! If you've been part of the hands and feet of Jesus helping us in the past, you might find yourself in some of the images captured below with David's song!

So much love and care went into each of the 100 bags assembled by clients and friends of Mission Financial last week. So many clients will be blessed and have their tummies and hearts filled in the days ahead!

If you see people out in the heat, send them the info below for cooling centers open this week.

Heat can be dangerous. Please help us spread the word.

If an Excessive Heat Advisory is issued and temperatures (or the heat index) are expected to reach 100°F or higher for two or more days, Cooling Centers may be activated.

If you see someone who may be struggling in the heat, or if you need a cool place yourself: Call the EWR Hotline after 9:00 AM at 636-344-0177 to confirm whether Cooling Centers are open and hear that day’s location.

When activated, Cooling Centers are open from 1:00–5:00 PM. Transportation is not provided, so please plan ahead if assistance is needed getting there.

Please consider sharing this information. Many people who need these resources may not see this post themselves, but someone they know might.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and remember to check on neighbors, older adults, and anyone who may be especially vulnerable during periods of extreme heat.

God’s blessings abound! Today we picked up 161 food bags lovingly filled by friends from Chesterfield Presbyterian Church who took on our cause for their June Benevolence project. These 2 day, non-perishables will be used by our caseworkers as they connect with clients in the days ahead. So thankful for each family that participated in this collection, for the staff at CPC for coordinating it all, for our FSBH team for gathering it all together and our Sue Miller, Tangible Inventory Coordinator, for organizing the staging and storage to get them all ready for client use!

Mission Financial, St. Peters …team and clients came together as the hands and feet of Jesus today to provide and pack 100 of our 2-day survival food bags for clients that Paul supplies when he puts folks into the motels for lodging. Along with the food items, each bag was provided with a sweet note of encouragement.

What a blessing to have their loving service bring such joy to our ministry team, and our clients for many days ahead! Julia Reeves organized the event, called “Packing with Purpose.” We appreciate the leadership there of Janssen Longenecker, a long-time ministry supporter and cheerleader!
