Do you have your free tickets reserved yet? This original play will feature James, Joshua, and John Jacob—who all grew up in the Jacobs Farmhouse and fought in the Revolutionary War. Join the brothers and their wives (and a cow!) in the West Barn as they discuss their service in the Scituate militia and the Continental Army.

Feeling patriotic? Getting ready to celebrate America’s 250th birthday? We are! Join the Norwell Historical Society the Sunday before July 4th (Sunday, June 28th) for a day of celebration. Col. Bailey’s 2nd Mass. Regiment (which both Joshua and John Jacob were in!) sets up camp for a day of military drills, living history demonstrations, crafts, and children’s activities. The Farmhouse Museum will be open for tours. Parking will be available at the South Shore YMCA Nature Center parking lots with limited accessibility parking at the Farmhouse. A detailed schedule of events is available online. This event is free and all are welcome!

The Historical Society has a large collection of indigenous artifacts—many of which were found along the North River. The artifacts in this picture (along with iron pieces related to shipbuilding) were discovered at the site of the Wanton Shipyard. Read more about the Wanton Shipyard in the latest issue of the Society’s newsletter.

The Historical Society used AI to generate this image of the 464-ton cargo ship Mount Vernon being towed down the North River from the Wanton Shipyard. Ships were built upriver, towed down the river at high tides, and rigging was added at the mouth prior to being sailed in open seas. Read more about the Mount Vernon and the other ships built at the Wanton Shipyard in the latest issue of the Society’s newsletter.

What a wonderful time we had adding flowers to May Day baskets! The May Day event was full, and everyone went home with a basket to hang on their neighbor’s door. What a wonderful tradition that also builds community! Thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped assemble the baskets and give tours of the Farmhouse Museum.
