Our fundraising efforts are to help others in need and to give back to the local community. What is a Church Hiller? Being a Church Hiller means you are part of a community of like-minded neighbors who believe in the long-standing tradition of giving and being in service to others in greater need than oneself. It is non-sectarian and being comprised entirely of families in the Church Hill section
of Norwell is also social in nature. Many have been members of the Church Hillers for years but new members and their families are always welcome as well. This is a living organization comprised of three generations of Norwell residents. Here are some of the things folks say they like about our group:
· You get to meet people in the area that are outside of your regular social interactions (work, kids, school, sports etc…). The membership consists of three generations of interesting, engaging people who live together.
· It is not a lot of “heavy lifting” in terms of being part of a not for profit group. We host one or two fundraisers a year, there is a monthly meeting between October and May and 4-5 social events. We usually have a fall BBQ, a holiday party, something in the spring, and a president’s dinner in May/June.
· The efforts that are put in and the money that is raised benefits Norwell. We adopt needy families every holiday season or provide a scholarship to the high school. We have donated funds to the Norwell Library, Norris Reservation and the James Library, to list a few beneficiaries of the Church Hillers fund raising efforts. We realize that everyone’s plate is very full with home and work obligations so there is no pressure to join. If you decide to pass, we are grateful for your honesty. We have enjoyed getting to know you a little bit, thought it would be fun and are glad you live here too. If you do decide being a part of Church Hillers makes sense, we do ask that you find a way to contribute your time and energy in one of the following ways:
· Monthly meeting attendance: Most of what we do is decided by the group at our meetings so being present means you can make yourself heard and we can count on your help.
· Pay your dues: We are a philanthropic organization and dues are like the ‘gas in the tank of our engine of giving’. Families count on our help and we count on your dues.
· Gift of time at fundraisers: We are 50 families strong. If 20% give of their time at any one fundraiser, we could have five fundraisers each year to support families in need and to help fund the scholarships we hope to provide for local youth deserving of the award. More fundraisers equals more families that we could help.
· Host meetings: Opening your home to your neighbors for our meetings is still one of the most time-honored ways to help the Church Hillers operate at a lower overhead and allow the greatest amount of our operating funds to go towards helping others.
· Serve on the board: We always benefit from the collective skill, talent and unique life experiences we have represented in the Church Hillers and your gift of service is invaluable to helping shape, guide and lead us forward to continue our good work. So, in a nutshell, this is the Church Hillers. If you are reading this, it is because we invite you to consider being part of our work in the community. Come add your talent and energy to our group in our mission of fund raising, providing scholarship(s) to graduating student(s) at Norwell High School or at neighboring schools attended by residents of Norwell and engaging in the support of the civic, social and cultural activities which we believe make Norwell a great place in which to live.
