Love Feast afterthoughts

Sunday, my heart was just exploding
with love,
with pride in our kids,
with relief (gotta be honest here).

It was truly amazing to see our kids scaling the scaffolding of what we are building for them.

Singing with their whole bodies.

Speaking their well-rehearsed words,
in small voices,
in slow but steady voices,
in easy voices,
in tense but tenacious voices.

Speaking words that they’d been practicing for a few weeks,
words handed the night before (my error),
or moments before (not sure where that friend is today, but he’s not here).

There was so much love at that feast.

But truly the feast began Friday night with a line of kids edging the counter pulling and stretching two giant batches of dough, laughing and giggling, ooh-ing and ah-ing, squeezing over to make space for one more and one more. Breaking off a piece of dough to share.

And oh, that dough after a good long rest while we rehearsed was silken!

So Sunday was the cherry on top, the icing on the cake
to see all those young people, those tiny humans-
who are fully and wholly human regardless of size-
to see them raising their voices,
clapping and tapping,
making rivers, waves and fountains
of peace, love and joy-
it was a feast for the heart and soul!

God bless our Confirmands! ✝️

This past Sunday, our Confirmands affirmed their faith through the rite of Confirmation. Each one shared a statement of faith; some shared stories from their earliest days spent toddling around UCC Norwell, while others reflected on their service experiences this past winter serving communities in Cambridge and Boston.

Their heart verses painted a broader picture of a group of young people who spent a whole year together discussing, discovering, and embracing their faith, guided with a loving hand by Pastors Leanne and Meg.

Please join us in celebrating these young people. Let's pray that they know they are surrounded by a community ready to support their faith journey and walk with them in the years ahead!

Didn't get to see their faith statements? Check them out on our youtube page!

They've been preparing for this moment all year — in classes, in conversations, and on retreats like this one, where they had space to wonder, to question, and to listen for what they believe.

Tomorrow, May 31, a group of our young people stand up in front of our community and say yes — to the faith first claimed for them in baptism, to a tradition that has shaped them, and to a future they're choosing for themselves.

It's a beautiful, holy moment. And it's one you can witness from anywhere.
We'll be livestreaming the service so family near and far, friends who've moved away, grandparents in other states, godparents across the country — anyone who's loved these young people along the way — can be part of it.

Share this with someone who'd want to be there in spirit:

Join us in person at 10am at 460 Main Street in Norwell or tune in live. There's a reception after the service — all are welcome.

A whole year of questions, crafts, snacks, big ideas, and small moments. This Sunday, our 4th and 5th grade Explorers gather for one more time before summer.

Explorers is where the big kids get to ask the real questions about faith, friendship, and what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

To this year's Explorers, you made this year what it was.

See you Sunday for our final Explorers adventure of the year!

This is the way. ➡️

For more than a thousand years, pilgrims have followed the scallop shell and the yellow arrow across northern Spain on the Camino de Santiago — and with UCC Norwell, you can, too.

Join us after worship this Sunday, May 31, to learn about an opportunity to travel the El Camino with UCC Norwell in 2028.

Curious but not sure? You are exactly who this session is for! Come hear about the route, what to expect, and how we will prepare.

Church member Jim Ianiri will lead this meeting and the team for a meeting in person at the church and on zoom — comment below or message us and we will send you the link!

"I always look forward to Sunday because I get to be at church and church school — and afterwards I get to sing to the world."

This past Sunday, 10-year-old June Hamilton shared her faith witness with our congregation. June has been coming to UCC Norwell since she was a baby, was baptized here last year, and sings in our youth choir.

"Usually when I perform I'm super nervous. Here, I don't worry about what will happen — instead I get excited about what I know will happen. This church is always welcoming and friendly. I never think that anyone will judge me."

"There have been many times where I've slipped up during a solo or frozen during a prayer, but I always keep going, because I'm singing with the youth and I'm part of a loving community."

Thank you, June, for sharing your voice and your faith with us. 💛

"I rarely imagined myself on the inside of the music. But watching my daughters thrive made me feel brave enough to take the leap."

Cara Hamilton's faith witness this past Sunday spoke to something many of us feel — that worship can sustain us from the pew, and it can also call us forward. To share our gifts. To let our light shine.

"Music is a balm to our souls. The music ministry nourishes our faith and devotion. God is with us."

If you've ever wondered whether there's a place for you in our music ministry — there is. Reach out through uccnorwell.org.

When Mary was just three years old, the Hamilton family sat on the organ side of the sanctuary. After the postlude, she wanted to meet the Minister of Music at the time, Karen, and see the organ and piano up close.

"A seed germinated that day for all of us."

Cara shared on Sunday how the warmth of our musicians — their gifts, their humility, their welcome of our youth — has shaped her whole family's faith.

(Fun side note: Andy Schlosser gave June her first pair of drumsticks. There is now a drum set in the Hamilton living room. 🥁)

Thank you to the musicians who make space for our children to wonder, to ask, and to find their own voice in worship.

"From the moment I started coming to UCC Norwell, my ears and my heart were full."

This past Sunday, Cara Hamilton shared a beautiful faith witness in celebration of our music ministry. She spoke of sermons that resonate deeply, prayers offered with holiness and sincerity, and music that moves the soul.

We are so grateful for the gift of worship we share together — and for voices like Cara's that remind us why we gather. 🎵
