Since March, over 500 obstetric ultrasound scans have been conducted in Gulu District, Uganda.

Since WOtW’s US team left Uganda in March, 10 trained midwives have provided over 500 free ultrasound scans at their local health centers, with 93% being first time scans. We are so proud of their incredible work!

Since the March 2026 training, 313 scans have been done, identifying 51 abnormal findings, leading to treatment, follow-up care, or referral to higher-level facilities. Some of these referrals likely saved lives.

Midwife Atimango Emily tells us: "The mothers are very appreciative and very happy that ultrasound services have been decentralized to health centers near them."

Before this program, many pregnant women had to travel long distances to access an ultrasound. Now they can receive this important service at health centers in their own communities—and at no cost.

We are so proud of these midwives. In addition to providing ultrasounds, they care for mothers during pregnancy and after birth, assist with deliveries, provide newborn care, and offer immunization services. Their dedication is making a real difference for families across Gulu District.
