Passenger rail supporters, transit advocates, and anyone interested in the future of mobility in Western Massachusetts — mark your calendars.

The Western Massachusetts Transportation Advocacy Network (WMTAN) will host its 4th Annual Transportation Forum, “Are We There Yet? Bridging Transit Gaps in the 413,” on Friday, June 12, at Mount Holyoke College.

The forum will bring together advocates, planners, elected officials, transportation professionals, and community members to discuss the future of transportation across the region.

Of particular interest to the rail community: the afternoon Rail Advocacy session will focus on the role of passenger rail in creating a more connected Western Massachusetts. This is an important opportunity for supporters of East-West Rail, Valley connectivity, station access, and broader regional rail expansion to join the conversation, share ideas, and help shape advocacy priorities moving forward.

Passenger rail does not exist in isolation — strong connections between trains, local transit, and regional mobility are essential to building a transportation system that works for everyone.

If you care about better transit in the 413 and beyond, we encourage you to attend and join the conversation.

This year, the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award will go collectively to the people of the Twin Cities “for risking their lives to protect their neighbors and immigrant community members” as federal immigration agents flooded the region earlier this year.

Four Twin Cities community members will receive the award on behalf of the region. They include Zena Stenvik, superintendent of the Columbia Heights school district; Imam Yusuf Abdulle, co-founder of the Somali America Leadership Table; Carolina Ortiz, who's organization, COPAL, began the Immigration Defense Network; and Natalie Ehret, for her work with Haven Watch.
