North Alabama AHEC visited healthcare facilities across Franklin and Marion Counties this week to connect with providers, practices, and healthcare leaders about opportunities that support our rural healthcare workforce and communities.

We accomplished:
✔️ Recruiting participants for Pri-Med’s FREE “Safe and Effective Pain Care” CEU/CME course
✔️ Promoting APTIP resources and education
✔️ Connecting with potential preceptors to help train the next generation of healthcare professionals

We love getting to meet the dedicated healthcare teams serving our rural communities and sharing ways we can work together to support both current and future providers!

📣 Want to learn more about becoming a preceptor, accessing free CEUs/CMEs, or partnering with North Alabama AHEC? We’d love to connect!

North Alabama AHEC enjoyed attending the 2026 NAVIGATE Nonprofit Network Conference in Huntsville yesterday!

This annual conference brings together nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers for professional development and collaboration. Sessions focused on important topics including fundraising, grant writing, board development, budgeting & finance, and strategies to help organizations navigate challenges and thrive.

We especially enjoyed hearing keynote speaker Alison Kling present “Leading with How: From Identity to Impact,” sharing practical ways nonprofits can better connect their daily work to their mission and vision.

Thank you to the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville and everyone involved in hosting this valuable event for our nonprofit community!

Last week, North Alabama AHEC attended the Alabama AHEC Statewide Network meeting in Montgomery. It was an energizing, engaging, and meaningful opportunity for all five AHEC centers in the state and the Program Office to connect and move our work forward together.

The day included team‑building activities, an insightful community partner panel, AHEC Scholar panel, interactive discussions regarding storytelling/advocacy, and table discussions on the future of AHEC. Afterwards, we enjoyed a tour of Faulkner University (Montgomery campus).

North Alabama AHEC participated in the Integrating Preceptor Training hosted by the Alabama A&M University Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP).

This GWEP Longitudinal Clinical Rotations (LCR) Boot Camp focused on strengthening interdisciplinary practice in geriatric care, with an emphasis on “transforming dementia care, one community at a time.” These types of trainings are designed to enhance collaboration across healthcare disciplines and improve outcomes for older adults through more coordinated, team-based care.

We were honored to learn alongside and hear from an outstanding group of speakers, including leaders from the Department of Social Work at Alabama A&M University, Dr. Forde with Oakwood University, Dr. Clinton Martin with UAB Huntsville Regional Medical Center, and our very own Lamont Dupree and Salana Usher with North Alabama AHEC.

Opportunities like this allow us to continue building a stronger healthcare workforce and better serve our communities across North Alabama.

North Alabama AHEC had such a great time connecting with the amazing participants at the The Arc of Walker County last week!

We volunteered leading a fun, interactive nutrition class where we talked about portion sizes, reading food labels, and making healthier food choices.

We didn’t just talk though; we played! From portion size games to building a healthy plate and even a slow eating challenge, there were lots of laughs along the way.

To help keep the learning going at home, participants received measuring cups as a takeaway tool.

It was such a wonderful experience, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to spend time together, share knowledge, and have fun while doing it.
