Putting the herd to work today mowing down the north pasture! I was finally able to open our north pasture back up for grazing today. We still have some fencing repairs to make from some downed trees from the bad wind storms that came through earlier this year. But there’s still a ton of waist high grass for them to graze for a while in the mean time. I can’t wait to have this whole pasture opened back up again!

Hope and Muffin popping in to say hi! It’s the unofficial start to Summer and we can’t wait! Our north pasture fencing is almost done and ready to be used for grazing again. We hope to have a few horses coming available for adoption soon. I’ll make sure to post details as soon as I am able. Until then, enjoy this weather!!

šŸ“· Here’s a photo dump from this last week or so. šŸ“·

ā˜€ļøThe heat and humidity came in full force so fans were set up in multiple places in the barn for the horses to come in for a cool off. Although the burros were in heaven with the heat! That’s exactly their kind of weather. 🄵

šŸš›We also got our hay delivery this past weekend! So thankful for our hay guy and the quality hay we get from him every time. We haven’t done any fundraisers in a while and hay isn’t cheap. šŸ¤‘

Chai and Jolene checking in! Pretty sure these girls are wondering what the heck happened to the warmth 🄶

Leave it to Michigan to give us a wonderful few weeks of false spring and just as we are getting ready to put away all the blankets, trough heaters, and jackets, the temps flip and bring back the pretty looking frost. Not a fan.

We are all looking forward to a warm up later in the week, and also our next hay delivery!

Some days I get so caught up in the feeding schedules, vet calls, fence repairs, late nights, early mornings, and the constant ā€œwhat still needs doneā€ … that I forget to stop and see it.

Tonight I sat on the porch and watched horses who were once scared, neglected, unwanted, and uncertain simply exist in peace. Grazing. Napping in the sun. Feeling safe.

And for a minute, all the busy faded away.
This is the part I never want to forget. šŸ¤

Spring is always a busy time around farms. A lot of catching up from stuff that was put off during the winter time. I end up spending a ton of time in the barn and pastures but forgetting to post 😬 so here’s a few photos from over the past week or two.

Thankful the ground is drying out a little bit. We still have some flooded spots but the majority of the pasture is dry again.

Really hoping we can finally get some work done in the north pasture so we can open that back up and I can stop wasting time mowing it each week 🫠

Last night the pasture was a little bit quieter and a little bit more empty. Yesterday morning, one of our favorite long ears laid down and never woke up.

While Charlie wasn’t here long, I knew him personally for many years. He’s the reason I love donkeys. He gave the best cuddles and made sure you always knew exactly what time breakfast and dinner were to be fed.

He became Dolly’s best friend while here and had the chance to hang out with other donkey friends. He was the best supervisor when it came to barn chores, keeping a watchful eye on me the whole time and always knew when to step in and initiate a cuddle session.

Charlie really was the best donkey ever and will leave a huge hole in everyone’s heart that had the chance to meet him šŸ’”
