The Ozzy Orange Program

The Ozzy Orange Program Welcome to our Ozzy Orange Program Page!

Our goal is to raise enough funds to start off with 500 hats and speak at several hunter safety courses and provide Ozzy Hats to those that complete their courses.

30 years ago today, our entire world shifted. What started as a quiet, cold March morning turned into chaos and heartbreak, then ensued into a stillness of despair and heavy hearts. Everything became somber and numb. Not only did we mourn, but our community mourned with us.

A year later, our parents embarked on a new mission, “Blaze Orange Saves Lives.” We were only 11 & 14 at the time. I still struggle remembering all the amazing things my parents did for other families after theirs was broken in half.

Countless kids in the area attended Hunter safety course’s, even when they weren’t hunters themselves. Seeing adults from 30 years ago talk about that day, still holding onto their Ozzy hats is not only touching, it’s an inspiration for us to move forward with our non-profit and continue this journey to make sure every child has the knowledge and equipment needed to safely enter the woods.

Our mission isn’t just about raising money to provide blaze orange hats to kids, it’s to share our story, continue to drive change and sustain safety in the field.

Today is always a cold reminder to our family of what was…. But it’s also a day that inspiration was born and lives have been changed for the better. And for that, we are blessed.

🦅 Fly high little brother, and may your wings blanket us with your warmth, forever 💗

" This was a special hunt. It was during bow season. My sister and I did a sister only hunt with no men. We travelled to northern Michigan and I got this buck during bow season. We field dressed, dragged, and got him home four hours away. It was a really special hunt for both of us."

House Bill 4285 and Senate Bill 58 would allow schools the option of offering that instruction, which also would count for a hunter safety certification.

Thank you all so much. Because of your support, we’ve officially made our first batch of Ozzy Orange hats. We were able to produce 220 hats, and this is just the beginning. Your generosity is already helping us keep the next generation of hunters safe.

The great American Bald Eagle. They have been the national emblem of the United States since 1782, representing power, freedom, and courage.

It's a symbol of spiritual growth, enlightenment, and a connection to the divine realms. The eagle is often associated with the Third Eye chakra, symbolizing clear vision, intuition, and higher consciousness.

In many Native American traditions, the eagle is a sacred messenger believed to travel between the physical and spiritual worlds, connecting people to the Creator.

After Austin died, we had Eagles flying over. Every time we see one we think of him. We have an Eagle on his headstone. I now have a beautiful Eagle tattoo .

The next time you see one, let it remind you that he is watching over us. Free and strong.

This Thanksgiving, my heart is extra full. 🧡🦌

When my sister and I decided to bring back the Ozzy Orange Program in memory of our brother Austin “Ozzy” Yancey, we hoped people would care — but we never imagined the outpouring of love and support we’ve received.

Every donation, share, message, and kind word means more to our family than we can ever express. You are helping turn a heartbreaking loss into something meaningful, protective, and full of purpose.

From our family to yours, thank you for believing in this mission.
Thank you for honoring Ozzy with us.

Wishing all of you a safe, warm, and grateful Thanksgiving.

Did you know as recently as 2021 there was a non-fatal shooting because someone wasn’t wearing blaze orange? 1977 it was made law for hunting big game during gun season.

While it doesn’t happen nearly as often, it still happens. Our goal is to ensure all future generations of hunters have the proper gear and understanding of the purpose of hunters orange.
