Founded in 2009, The Literacy Project's vision is to bring the gift of literacy to children as a foundational learning element to help achieve their personal dreams. To accomplish its mission, The Literacy Project (TLP) accesses and enhances key phonic skills among struggling readers; promotes learning in a fun, social and interactive environment; uses proven methods to maximize the learning experience; and fosters self-sufficiency and economic success through academic achievement. Recognizing both the short-and long-term social concerns directly associated with illiteracy including higher rates of school dropout, unemployment, and poverty, as well as the long-term implications of the 3rd grade reading achievement gap, TLP was established to make a significant and lasting impact. Utilizing their comprehensive literacy intervention program, The Literacy Project strives to improve reading skill levels among struggling readers in the 2nd grade at Title 1 schools throughout Southern California.

Monette and her husband are the owners of Zotovich Vineyards, a family-run vineyard in Lompoc, California. 🍇🍷 From education to entrepreneurship, Monette understands that when you invest your time and talents into something you believe in, you can change lives.

This year, Monette is bringing that same heart to our SAVOR Committee, generously chairing our table décor and helping create what promises to be a spectacular evening.

We are thrilled to celebrate Kathy Simon Abels, Ph.D., Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ronald M. Simon Family Foundation, as one of our distinguished SAVOR 2026 Honorees!

Kathy’s passion for helping young people succeed has made a lasting impact. She helped establish the Simon Scholars Program, created to support students facing difficult economic and life circumstances. She also helped expand the program beyond financial scholarships to include mentoring, leadership development, life skills and college preparation, giving students tools to thrive well beyond the classroom.
