On this international , we are thinking of the students out there who are working so hard to go to school, despite living in a world with so much uncertainty.

Children across the world continue to face school closures, obstacles to remote learning, and challenges both in and out of the classroom. Sadly, the pandemic isn’t the only barrier to education. is grateful to all our supporters helping put lights into the hands of these young children. ☀️💡📚

At the end of March, our partners at the African Wildlife Conservation Fund facilitated the installation of two solar panel systems from the 2020 donation distribution. The systems were installed at two primary schools that currently do not have electricity nor have the ability to get it in the future. Each system will benefit 150 people including students, teachers, and community members who regularly access the school’s resources. The school libraries will now be utilized after sundown, giving the students the ability to continue their studies and provide teachers with ample time to lesson plan. These new systems will aid in a bid to increase the literacy and pass rates in the recipient schools. The installations went smoothly and the schools have put in place security measures to safeguard the systems and all components against vandalism and theft. The schools have also assigned a team to monitor the students at night to ensure the safety of the students, especially for the girl students. Thank you again to all our partners for their tireless dedication to these students and communities!

Among Zimbabwe’s economic challenges, one of the most pressing is the lack of electricity. Approximately only 40% of the country’s population has accessible electricity. The residents experience daily blackouts due to the current generation of 6.8 billion kilowatt hours (when properly functioning) not meeting the 7.2 billion kilowatt hour demand. Without any access or guarantees for electric lighting, many families are left in the dark once the sun goes down. In order to support the children, schools, and libraries in these communities, we work with our long standing partners to provide solar lighting to those most in need. As the effects of the pandemic are still apparent, we are working to continue providing solar lighting to children and communities most in need. As of December 2020, our donation of 4,000 solar room lights and 10 solar panel systems arrived safely in Zimbabwe. Our partner groups will be coordinating pick up of the donations and distributing them to schools and communities. Here is an update from our partners, The Rotary Club of Harare, in regards to the impacts of COVID-19: “As you may know Zimbabwe went into hard lockdown at the beginning of 2021. Everything is closed, no traveling unless for medical emergencies. No schools are allowed to open until COVID is brought under control. Some lights have been collected but are store in Harare awaiting distribution which at this time is impossible. Once again our grateful thanks for these wonderful lights that continue to make a difference to so many lives.” Much appreciation to our partner groups who work tirelessly for the children and communities in need. As the pandemic is still very apparent, we will need support now more than ever to continue our mission. In order to abide by the California Department of Public Health's "stay at home" order to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the 9th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be postponed until further notice. Let us all do our part by practicing proper social distancing and staying at home in order to keep ourselves and those in our communities safe during this time.

An update will be sent out once a new date is chosen so that we may continue to light the lives of children in need throughout sub-Saharan Africa. We hope that you will be able to join us later this year to participate in this special event and we appreciate your understanding through this decision.

If you have already registered for this event, we will roll over your payments to the new date. For more information, please contact Kristen Moreno at: 949-252-7538 or [email protected].

If you would like to make a donation, please visit out website at www.BourkeFF.org. As little as $15 can provide a room light to a child in need. As always, thank you for your support and we wish you good health and well-being during this difficult time.
